For the year, the Illini have scored 1130 points on 983 two point shots, 1.15 points per 2 taken; they have scored 798 points on 872 three point shots, .915 points per 3 taken. For a supposedly analytics driven team, this imbalance seems obvious. For reference, the top 2 teams: Auburn is at 1.1 points per 3 taken, 1.13 per 2 taken; Duke is at 1.17 points per 3 takes, 1.15 points per 2 taken. Even Alabama, who is similar in style to the Illini with heavy 3 point shooting, average 1.05 on 3s, 1.21 on 2s. It seems to my untrained mind that the Illini's .915 points on 3s has to rise (by taking fewer, better 3s, or hitting a much higher % on the same volume) for us to make a run the rest of the season.

Translation - Hit just 32% on 3's and we will win a lot more games!

Coaching staff has to be aware of this. Only conclusion I can draw is that they believe that 3 point shooting to date is NOT what they will shoot in future as they keep encouraging them to take them. Over simplification, but only two paths forward to win: start making threes OR stop taking threes/switch to twos. Seems clear which one BU has elected. So we have to hope our shooting improves. Not exactly a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that is what needs to happen
