To me, if you're pulling out that many close games late, it means you're doing all the little things very well. SLOBS, BLOBS, defeating/executing the press, fouling/not fouling, FT's, TO's/no TO's...etc.

I attribute all of that to excellent coaching/practice.

What if I told you players were getting paid nearly 6 figures to play for certain High Schools and AAU teams …

And it’s been going on FOREVER …

Grey wasn’t/isn’t optional … It’s just a matter of how dark you wanna go …
The original, late great Mark Smith (my avatar!) told me Lou would give the players money especially when they were on the road. Of course not like NIL today, but still "under the table" and a violation. Even squeaky clean Lou Henson.

Sorry Lou - RIP! Go Illini!

That’s no joke … Look at February 1st to now …

They should’ve lost every game …

**This is not me saying Dusty isn’t a good coach**
What is crazy is that their average margin of victory for their last 9 wins: 3.1

Over the same timeframe, their average margin of defeat for their 3 losses: 20

For their last 12 games they have been outscored by 32 points, but yet are 9-3 in that timeframe.

Not sure I have ever seen something like that before in basketball.

EIU is a tough job … I think it’s time for a change …

Tom is a smart guy … And there’s been some conversations I know that … He wants to be better than they are …
I haven’t seen many other OVC facilities in person but I imagine EIU’s is probably one of the worst. For such a Greek focused student body, the student interest in athletics is abysmal. It wasn’t even that great when Garoppolo was throwing video games stats on the field. I feel like they need a major facilities overhaul to spark a new culture in athletics.

You’re right … There is evidence …

“Chris did not strangle me, and I told that to law enforcement that evening. Chris has stated that he was acting in self-defense, and I do not refute that. I do not believe Chris was trying to intentionally harm me in any way. It was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted. We appreciate everyone’s support and prayers during this difficult time,” Trew’s statement said.
Take out the strangulation portion. Just discard it for a moment.

She had cuts, bruises, and abrasions all over her body, and a bite mark on her arm. None of that has been disputed by anyone. Texas fired him, for cause, AFTER she recanted her statement. Beard could have sued them for millions. He did not. Any guess as to why? Perhaps to avoid legal discovery?

Possibly because he got a job 2 months later. Maybe did not want the headache of a legal process and thought it was better to just move on.

Even if it was 100% self defense, dragging out a legal process could still make him look really bad. It was in his best interest to let it go, as charges were dropped and he got a new job. Why take unnecessary risk?

One is entitled to not want Beard as coach because of the allegations, but these are complicated situations. I would personally steer clear of Beard, but the guy can coach without a doubt.

I would hire him as an assistant coach. You don't need prior experience at UI. ;)

Ok assume it is 100% self defense. Have you ever so vigorously defended yourself against your wife/gf/one-night stand that it left her cut, bruised, and with bite marks (and you unscathed)? If something like that happened to your daughter or sister, would you be ok with the excuse "well, it was in self-defense"?

I want to be clear that I am in no way defending Beard's actions. I find the situation reprehensible in general, but was responding to the insinuation that by not suing Texas, that he was actually admitting guilt or wrongdoing. The reality is that it was in his best interest to just let the situation go, regardless of wrongdoing or if he had a good case against Texas.

I think that's one possible interpretation, but another is that if he had sued the photos police took of his fiancé would have come out in discovery and would not have helped his future employment prospects.

He would if there wasn't such a time commitment in the coaching profession
I feel like having a passion for video analysis and spreading that knowledge is vastly different than getting paid to break down film in an extremely competitive and time-consuming role.

Taking something you love and making it your job is a good way to stop loving it.

Plus it's not like he's getting nothing to do it now, as a podcaster/analyst. How much does a video coordinator make? It might not be a huge bump in pay, and it certainly would be a huge bump in responsibility, stress, and time consumption.

Change of career with incredible upward mobility if he's good at it? He's a young guy. Goals and aspirations change all the time. Obviously, I'm not projecting that, but you asked why and that would be why.

Not everyone wants to live their next 40 years under the status quo. Why does anybody change jobs(when not being forced out of fired)? He's obviously really good at what he does and he does have a couple of different paths he can choose to go down. I, personally, think that he'd be a fantastic addition to an operation like the Big Ten Network and follow the Trent Meachem path.

Nothing wrong with not wanting change if you're happy however.
