I should start out by saying that I have no clue what is true and what isn’t when it comes to NIL money but comments like these make me even more confused as to why a team would pay someone like Coleman Hawkins $2MM for one year. Someone who has gotten feedback from the NBA twice and was a (really good) role player for a good team for 4 years. It just seems like the obvious answer would be the guy wants to play hero ball, stuff the stat sheet, and be able to showcase himself as “the guy” in his final year. A player like that is done playing to win and is more in the camp of playing for scouts. Matthew Mayer is an all to real example for Illinois fans. Glad that happened so (hopefully) we no longer recruit guys like that in the portal. Would be smarter in my opinion to get a young guy for a little more money than the market is demanding to have a chance to have him at the school for multiple years.
