What is a huge key to the Illini’s success is the maturity of understanding when threes won’t fall, they have to keep going to the basket drawing fouls and hitting the offensive boards. Can we mentally adjust and not fall in love with the open three point shot when we aren’t hitting?

I hope we can adjust. Not a whole lot of evidence that we can, but there is some.

Keep the threes throttled back, and win. And win.

Congratulations on a great season then I guess. That’s not how winners are judged. Not hanging banners for it either. It’s an asterisk for a program that had a good run, that’s it.
How do you just winners then? We're one of four teams that consistently win 20 games. How many BTT championships and regular season banners have we had over the last six seasons?

We have an asterisk that only three other programs have. The obviously elite. However, because we've only been to one elite 8 over the past six years.... we're not being judged as winners?

By your standards, how many programs are winning programs? Purdue went to a Final, but lost to a 16 the previous year. Is there an asterisk there?

Outside of UConn, how many programs how many programs just had a great season, but aren't winners?

You've pretty much nailed you definition of winners to about 2% of all collegiate programs.

Tough grader, I guess.

2% of 364 = 7 🤷‍♂️.

So if we're not a top 7 program in America, we're a losing program.

QUESTION:
I apologize in advance if this should be in a different thread.... I have never been to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Tournament. I am planning on going Friday night, as long as we win our game thursday.

How are tickets sold for the tournament? Are they sold as a day pass or single game tickets?

Thank you

That graphic was incorrect when it was shown on Friday night (Creighton has won 20 games for 10 straight years, maybe others at six or more) and will be even more incorrect by the end of the season as more teams win their 20th this year (on Saturday Kansas won their 20th game, extending their streak to 36 years!). It's certainly a positive reflection on the program, but there are more than four teams that have consistently won 20 games longer than the Illini.

Hope you enjoy. They sell tickets in 2 game sets. There's the afternoon set (12 noon and 2:30) and the evening set (6:00 and 8:30). I got the cheaper seats on Seat Geek for about 120 bucks per ticket, per set. You CAN buy multiple sets as well, but you'll have to exit and reenter with a new set of tickets purchased. Alternatively, you can buy a pass for the entire tournament, if they're still available. That runs about 600-700 bucks.

What's the background/logic for letting 15 in for the BTT? 16 or 12 would make for a symmetrical bracket, 15 seems odd.
Maybe it's so there are only three games on the first day, when viewership is probably the lowest. And having four games in a single location is tough.

Question for anyone who may have any info. I know several school’s boosters rent out sections of certain bars for the Big Ten tourney, does the Illinois boosters do this or is there a particaar bar that fans meet up?

I'm convinced that, when at full strength, we're the best team in the conference.

...and I don't think it's even all that close.
I agree wholeheartedly!
Apart from the time lost due to injuries,
there was significant practice lost - esp wrt evderything going thru Tomi and him not being there to practice.
Then you add in the other kids missing time and you have a team that forgot how to play hoops.
That's all over, but they had to relearn stuff to get to where they were, and then they could continue to grow.
Where are they now? All I know is they are pretty darn good now, but more importantly,
they are getting better with every half.
Trickiest part will be how to bring Morez back in, without upsetting the gelling to date.
Just my opinion.

Conference titles for one. We are doing well there. This is a winning program, no question about it under a underwood.
But I’m not acting like 20 wins is banner worthy. Not one person on here last year was saying “ if we hit 20 again that’s a great season cause so few do it” it’s a random stat.

Why be upset? We are doing great, I suppose next years first home game when they hang the banner for this achievement you will be there.

Nah, 20 wins is not random. It's nearly two-thirds of your games. It's almost always tournament worthy if you're in a power conference.

It just doesn't happen to mean as much as winning conference records, championships, or tournament appearance/victories. That's why it's not talked about as much.

Re: Successful Season Metrics

I'm a big advocate of "staying entertained." The Groce years taught me to enjoy winning regular season games more. In this world where we have a lot of content generation options, I like being encouraged about the Illini because then I'm entertained by all the extra content. It helps fill my day with something enjoyable (I have an ear bud in listening to something much of the day), rather than listening to political talk. 😄

I mean, I'm disappointed when the Illini season is over. But I won't be upset about the overall season if they gave themselves a bite at the apple.

God forbid this doesn't crash.

Actually it's correct because it's 20 REGULAR SEASON wins which is Creighton is not included.

Also depending on how the timing turns out we could be adding our families 5th generation of Illini fans during the games on Saturday! I'm not too sad about being off work for a couple weeks right as the tournament starts but it might be a struggle to stay awake for all the games 😂

20 wins and going to the tournament every year is elite.

But just making the tournament every year and never making it out of the first weekend does not sound like a fun time to me. Fortunately, the people in charge agree and have higher expectations than that.
