2008-2014 Mo was very good. 2015-present Mo has not been good. Time to move on to new leadership. The Cardinals will never spend like the Yankees or Dodgers. They don't have the revenue base that larger market teams have. They can spend more than they have spent but expecting top 5 payroll numbers is just not realistic. Gotta be a lot smarter than they've been lately.
I want smart money again. I want smart trades. I want a balanced and strong farm.
I want the way we had it early 2000’s. A core from within and go out and grab an Edmonds. Get a Beltran on the team, Berkman. The push to spend, spend, spend on the big club was a disaster. I think ownership stinks right now, but I do feel they felt the pressure from the fans to put the money on the big squad and make hasty trades. Pretty soon we had no pitching depth, the where do the Cardinals find these guys (Edman, Donovan, etc) well had dried up and we were left with nothing to help the big squad.
The Matz signing to this day really bugs me. That totally felt like a spend money to say we’re trying deal and it has been horrible.

I overall like some of the guys in this lineup. We have young guys who have potential, just have to unlock it some how in which the staff hasn’t been able to. There will be nights that the offense is bland. The 1st base battle actually should be nice little competition. Our pitching…

I would rather them have gone hard on someone like Harper, they needed a lefty power hitter and 'supposedly' were willing to trade for Stanton, resign Hayward or sign Price.

Instead they spend mid level money on Leake, Dex, Matz, Miller, Holland, Cecil, (among other relief pitchers).c Then they extend guys like Carp, DeJong, etc...

Panic trading players who have won a GY and another who has 3 years with top 10 finishes in the balloting.

I guess I'm saying their talent evaluation s###s.

I don't think that's what any reasonable fan is clamoring for. Last season our payroll was below league average. There's a huge range between top 5 and below average. The season before was like 12th. For a team that consistently averages in the top 3 in attendance I don't think a top 8 salary is too much to ask. I certainly don't think a top 10 is too much to ask.

And then to say you couldn't invest in development because your not even top 10 salary was too onerous? C'mon man.

Today's first game was vintage Cardinal's 2020's baseball. Only 3 hits yet led 6-0 going into the 7th. Relievers give up 7 runs in the 7th and 8th innings for a 7-6 loss. Gonna be a long season.

It's the first game of spring training. Also, take what you see in spring, especially early spring, with a grain of salt.

Zach Thompson shut down for 3-4 weeks after tearing his left lat muscle.
Starting to see this injury more often. Luis Gil of the Yankees is shut down for a minimum of six weeks because of a lat injury. Is this another injury that's a function of pitchers just trying to throw as hard as possible? I've never really heard of this type of injury before this spring.

Jordan Walker left the game against Nationals today with pain in his left knee.

Does anybody know if there is a channel or network televising Cards game this season? We came up empty last year when BSM went bankrupt.

Thanks for the info. But I don't get either of those channels. Does anybody know where the games might show up on Comcast Cable? Is Bally Sports Midwest in business again? Or still bankrupt?

No. My understanding is Fanduel Sports replaced Bally.

JUPITER, Fla. -- Right-handed reliever Phil Maton and the St. Louis Cardinals agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract, the team announced Thursday.
Maton was traded from Tampa Bay to the Mets on July 9 and finished 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA in 71 appearances, including 2-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 31 games for New York. He appeared in six postseason games during the Mets' run to the NL Championship Series.

Good relief pitcher, weird signing. Are we competing this year? Are we rebuilding? Are we committed to a "youth movement" as it has previously been described? If yes to the last one, why do we have so many old guys still on the roster and why are we signing more? How is Nolan Arenado still a Cardinal?

At the least the Major League Radio broadcast team can no longer point out that the Cardinals had made no moves in the off season.

It is obvious it is not a total reset at this point. Pretty normal situation for these days and times with the Cardinal organization.

The half-in/half-out approach is going to kill this club. It's clear ownership doesn't want to go all-in, and also doesn't want to do a real rebuild that'll temporarily tank attendance. Instead we'll get middling results again, probably for the foreseeable future.

I'm afraid you're right.
