Hurley really rubs me the wrong way. He's a crybaby and simply refuses to set a good example for younger people. He's a great coach aside from that.
When his team(s) are dominantly winning…his antics are often accepted as some masterclass in trolling. But then when his teams can’t back it up…he just looks like a sad clown. He often doubles down on said nonsense too; and then looks even more ridiculous. Basically, I think he’s a freak with an inferiority complex and an impulse control problem.

Another thing that I think gets lost too…is just how mediocre of a coach he was for a long time. It’s taken him over a decade to really figure it out. (x’s and o’s particularly) He’s improved a lot. In other news, I’d like to see us poach Luke Murray at some point.

Sure, I guess…kind of? I realize variables like this do make a difference. But to blame a game like this solely on a short tournaround is reductive. I mean, for one thing…no one escapes short turnarounds in tournament play. You can’t put it all on that. You gotta play better or earn a double bye. It’s that simple.

Also, I know you are not…but I honestly don’t get; blaming the referees for every loss, or 11 0’clock games being too early for us crap, or whining about draws…in multiple years. I mean life sucks-get a helmet.

In this case, I do think Maryland is soundly the superior team physicality-wise and athletically… but even within that…there’s still a range of reasons we got shellacked like we did.
Yeah short turn around isn’t the only reason we lost. We lacked the physical and mental toughness.

I'll admit, I was pretty mediocre at my job when I started, too. I'll let you know when I decide I'm good at it (probably never given my extreme case of impostor syndrome).

I can’t help but wonder if part of his arrogance is a coping mechanism because his goofy looking brother was an all American a Duke while he was a good but not great player at Seaton Hall.

You mean like he has a inferiority complex?

I know this is probably a foolish question. Could Ty Rogers lose his red shirt if he decided to play in the NCAA tournament? Just asking for clarification.
I would think, but there's no scenario where that happens.

I've read plenty of articles on him, and this is true. He's always had that "little brother syndrome" where he's felt like he's spent his entire life trying to prove he belongs.

Like many other things in life, that has a positive side and a dark side. No doubt that his drive stems in large part because he is always trying to prove himself and is willing to out-grind everyone else. But man, his victim mentality and trolling when things are going his way gets old in a hurry.

Two-point game in Nashville with four minutes left. Tennessee is wilting, while Auburn has fought back.

This game has a clear regional final/Elite 8 feel to it.

EDITED to add - 1:40 left, Tenn 68 Auburn 63. Tennessee has made it a point to double Broome every single time he touches the ball. Rick Barnes is going to let anyone else on Auburn beat them. Would be nice to see that on a different team I can think of . . .

NEXT EDIT - TN 68 AUB 65 :48 left 2H. Auburn ball after the injury timeout.

Auburn forces a turnover on a held ball. with 28 seconds left and down 68-65. Inexcusable for Rick Barnes to not call a timeout (they had two left) with his player trapped in the deep corner. That's always been his major bugaboo as a coach - he just does not seem to be up to speed in big moments of big games.

It was a clean strip, but a very risky reach in, nonetheless. Never put the refs in a position to make a bad call there.

If that was KJ making the reach, the play would have probably been called a shooting foul.

OMG, South Carolina State all-time brain cramp. Get a steal to tie the game in final seconds, their player didn't know the game was tied, and fouled intentionally...Norfolk State hits the FTs to win it and go to the tournament.
