A couple of things:
1) You don't use NIL money to hire assistant coaches. It is paid to the players for the use of their Name Image, and Likeness.

2) All the history people have been arguing about means almost nothing. The question is what can a coach do now with the amount of NIL that Illinois Men's BB has available and the amount of money available for assistants..................under the current transfer rules.

What Groce did doesn't have anything to do with anything.

“Illinois a yearly big ten contender”

Two years ago we tied for 5th
This year we tied for 7th.
People need to stop acting like we are constantly fighting for Big10 championship cause two out of the last three years we were not even close.
GMAFB. We’re tied for the most wins over the past 5 years with Purdue. If you’re expecting more than that over a 5 year period you’re borderline delusional.

lol. We are going to play either Sean Millers team or Texas, the team Brad supposedly has expressed interest in. Amazing.
Hi whoever from the NCAA Selection Committee has been reading this thread and wanted to set up some extra spicy drama.

Guenther should have swallowed his pride or whatever and signed Sampson in 2003. Sampson's last two teams at Oklahoma were loaded with talent and finished 3rd in both final AP polls for 2002 & 2003. His 2002 Oklahoma team went to the final 4 and his 2003 team lost in the Elite 8. Sampson was already a proven elite recruiter. Maybe a little shady but so what. Weber just wasn't cut-out for the recruiting wars like a Self or Sampson.
Why would you think ILL would've been better off with Sampson during that era? He would've violated rules just as he did with Indiana and we would've been starting over at some point. Very good coach but he was a sleaze bag in his younger days two decades ago. I still would've taken the much cleaner Bruce Weber despite the up and down tenure after the 05-06 season.

No we aren't. With Purdue's record being better than ours this season they have the best record in the big ten over the last 5 years.

Thought they put up that we were tied after we beat them in the regular season finale. Maybe they went back an extra year.

I thought I read somewhere before the big tournament this year that is it is 81-wins for both teams over the last 6 years. But over the last 5 years, Purdue has the most wins and Illinois 2nd.

Purdue has the best record in conference over the last 5 years including this season. Add in this season and now they have the best record over the last 6.
We are tied with them for the 5 seasons previous to this one.
Basically it is a brag that the Illini no longer have.

I just looked at the records. We were tied with them for the previous 5 seasons. Purdue had the better record this season, so for the previous 6 they have the better record. Purdue also has the better record over the last 5.

It's weird that I remember this, maybe because I was watching, but last year they got beat so bad by Iowa St in the conference tournament that they set all sorts of futility records and such
They lost by 28. But they still made the sweet 16 last year. In fact, since the 2018-1019 season Houston has have made the Sweet 16 every year. In 2021 they made the final 4 before losing to national champion Baylor.

Honestly they were pretty lucky to survive Texas A&M last year. A&M outplayed them just couldn't close.

What am I to do with this information?

I was responding to someone who said they never get blown out
