Iowa is not in a great spot right now (LvilleILL1)

I'm not asking permission - I'm just taking it (but adding the user handle for appropriate attribution since the quote is so great).
Wow, that would be something. Getting canned and ending up in a better situation. I selfishly want him as an AC for us, but if he can get the Iowa gig, good for him. Also - Ben Johnson is a name at Iowa …
not a good look to take a guy a conference opponent felt wasn't good enough and fired. Also - Ben Johnson is a name at Iowa …
Forbes will be 60 in a few weeks....age aside, he would be a good hire. He did very well at ETSU and quickly turned around a dumpster fire at WF. The ACC must really suck these days, because they have been solidly over .500 in conference the past 4 seasons and haven't made the TourneySteve Forbes would still crawl through glass for that job …
I know I’ve said that on here before but it’s from the man himself … Lol
If that’s the worst they do … They’ll be alright …
uh oh. flashback to when the AJ Storr transfer thread blew up
I know people in the know seem to be a lot higher on him, but I just don't quite get the Ben Johnson hype. He did fine for the players that Minnesota could put on the floor, but he still seems very unproven to me whether he can actually recruit and build an annual top half of the B10 team. Maybe he'll get there but when your best season in 4 years is a 19-15 season 11th place finish in an extremely down B10 (outside Purdue and us) with Christie and Garcia on the roster, *shrugs*Also - Ben Johnson is a name at Iowa …
Love Chester but he's not ready for a high-major HC gig yet. Needs to continue learning a bit longer, then perhaps move to a mid-major HC gig if he wants it.If Devrie takes any other job tell me why WVU hiring Chester to take the helm is a bad move?
Because it's a major conference, and he has never been a head coach. Simple as that.If Devrie takes any other job tell me why WVU hiring Chester to take the helm is a bad move?

Just seems like he'd be a pretty decent step down from Fran and quite the gamble.
No Devries backed out when Iowa couldn’t provide the NIL he was looking forI read that Devries' buyout is $7.5M. Did Iowa hesitate on the buyout?
I would only hire the next man up if he's been groomed for the position for multiple years by a legend that's retiring, like Scheyer at Duke. Otherwise I think coaches need to cut their teeth at mid-majors. D1 basketball has an advantage of 364 Division 1 teams with many different tiers of conferences. Most of the time you can get a proven winner that went from an automatic 1-bid conference to a mid major and passed every test along the way. It's not like Football where there a lot more limited FBS options and sometimes you do just want to gamble on a coordinator.Because it's a major conference, and he has never been a head coach. Simple as that.
That's a lot of prepositions.Seriously though, when is the last time that a Big Ten school from a state starting with the letter I and has a good basketball history with a recent rough patch has ever poached a Big 12 coach in his first year on the job after moving up from a mid major?
These three guys were all pretty good Iowa coaches. It’s insanely underrated what Fran did there …
