I'm rooting for Chester too, but I don't think he's a no brainer for WVU. He's only been at the school for one year and he has never been a head coach at any level.

Plus he's a solid recruiter, but he's never been one to bring in blue chip talent. I don't think they should hire him at this point in his career and frankly I don't think it would be a good idea for Chester to take that job right now.
I think Chester should absolutely take the job given the offer. It is life changing money whether he succeeds or not. If he succeeds, great. If he tanks after 1-2 years, he got the experience, and can either go back to being an AC, and knows exactly what additional skills he needs to learn/practice before his next attempt, or just retire wherever he wants.

If you like your hamburgers plain, nothing.

What about VCU for Chester if it opens as many expect it to?
It feels like that job is a “second step” for a lot of head coaches. For example, Ryan Odom was at Maryland-Baltimore County as a head coach first.

A job like UNC-Wilmington in a one-bid conference feels more like it’s closer to the ceiling of possible jobs Chester could take.

Self looks like he's had it. I think the portal has him disgusted, as with many of the top tier guys. Wouldn't surprise me to see him as an analyst at some point ala Jay Wright. He'd be perfect.
Ahh, the portal and NIL $. The great equalizer of college sports. I’m sure it has all the supposed “blue bloods” disgusted.

Does Kevin Willard realize that he’s … Kevin Willard?
You Dont Know Me Mc Lyte GIF by ALLBLK

Willard 100% gives me vibes of a guy who wants everything comped for him in College Park because he’s the basketball coach. That was Steve Alford in Iowa City.

Per Indy it seems the Golden to UT talk has cooled. Either TG has something else up his sleeve or he's decided it's Gainesville for now.

Not very common to hear a coach talk about these things publicly. Seems like Willard is pissed and trying to send a message.
Anymore 2 big things AD's need to do:

Fundraise like you work at Disney
Keep your coaches happy (support)

If you do those two things you'll have the money to pay players and coaches and keep them happy. Otherwise, stay out of their way and let them do the work.

There’s still some interest there from both sides … He’s higher on CDCs list than he is the boosters … And with a $15 million buyout, you better have booster support …

I think Golden would really like to get back to the West Coast if the opportunity is there …

He'd have 2 choices. Wait to see if Mick jumps or Dana retires. If a guy is winning at a program and still wants out I'd do a lot of due diligence as to why. Oregon is obviously a different story if Altman decides to pack it in.

I know that this happens every year and that it is part of the business, etc. but if we lose tonight because Brad is too busy thinking of greener pastures to take the D from Hamer—and does this despite top 10 coach $$—, then good riddance.

I highly doubt that if we lose, it’s because Brad wasn’t doing his job. It’s possible to job search and still do your job…for any job, not just coaching.

This perception is weird to me. Just because Indy or whoever has stated that Brad's agent has heard from Texas doesn't imply that Brad is in the hotel in Milwaukee on a Zoom call with Del Conte... I feel like this is a concept most people don't understand because when us average joe's go job hunting, we don't have someone like an agent doing our bidding.

Just know that if we have a new coach next year, that new coach (probably more so his reps) will be doing the exact same thing because, yeah, it’s part of the business.

I suppose that’s true if you think that part of doing one’s job is looking for another job during the most important part of doing one’s job.

Which is why we shouldn’t allow ourselves to lose a coach to Texas. We have better tradition and fan support, and our facilities are about equal … so if their main $trength is neutralized by them not allocating enough to hoops, why would our fans just automatically assume we couldn’t fend off Texas Basketball, assuming we wanted to keep Brad? I think Indiana or Michigan would assume they could keep their guy, and so should we.
Love you, Fighter.
I think this whole "Brad is leaving" conversation is silly. Brad would have to be 100% coin-operated to voluntarily leave. ....but I digress.

If Texas decides to get serious about hoops then they will get crazy serious. There is no limit to Texas financial resources.
We're talking ridiculous, game-changing, field-tilting MLB-scale contracts.

Rich Texans might even revel in paying so far above what's reasonable just to say they did it.

Brad has not spoken with any Texas people …

He’s focused on the team … He’s focused on Xavier … He’s focused on getting to San Antonio …

That’s from the man himself …
