Need more in the post/frontcourt and I mean immediate enforcers, not guys who just eat minutes. Don't forget the Maryland games, where we just got punished in the paint because we really lack that depth and physical presence less Morez. Our guards got into the paint, then dribbled right out because of the worry of the shot being blocked/altered. That's intimidation and we need it.
Tomi is comfortable on the perimeter. He's the classic Euro 4/5.
Ben took a lot of heat defensively, but he has no business being forced to defend the paint. That's an unfair ask, but he's the depth in the frontcourt. He gets pushed under the hoop and people lose their minds at him. There's no option B.
IF IF IF we take an L today, it's going to be because we're not going to be able to clean up the defensive glass or give Williams any real pushback. I'm close to the floor and that dude is enormous. We just don't have those big, physical , bouncy 4's and 5's that will protect the rim, clear the glass and get out on the break where we're at our best.
It's great to have elite guards, but if we can't utilize them how they were meant to be utilized....it's a tough spot.
It's exciting to see the threes, the breakout dunks, etc..., but that starts on the defensive end.
Your point about having some lights out shooters, slashers and a true point is right on because we do need them. It's the paint and lack of being able to go there offensively for a hoop or a putback.....that's the difference between hoping we win today and expectations of a final four.
We'll see!
