Respectfully, I disagree, that team is winning the big ten and is a national title contender from the jump. It's very similar to the talent level of this years team with a year more experience for everyone and replacing KJ with a senior who is a lights out shooter. Sarr isn't the scorer Will is, but much more athletic and better defensively. Big Z is a huge upgrade to the frontcourt. This would be the dream scenario, Dix and Big Z would be "big splash" portal additions - Dix has every big time program after him right now. If it's McKneely instead of Dix, my feeling is the same
I disagree. I think it's a good team but I think it's a 4 seed caliber roster(solid floor but lacks upside and it's missing a true difference maker). Sure it should compete in the Big10 but the Big10 is always full of good but not great teams.

Indiana will be getting Tucker DeVries and will have plenty of money to add talent. Michigan will be coming off a good season. MSU is MSU, Purdue will return everyone, and so on.

Is Jakstys that bad where he can’t be the 3rd big? Don’t want to grab one from the portal with the risk of running of Mo.

Plenty of talent for that team to get to a final 4. MSU's roster this year is worse than that would be

That's true but I still just think it's missing the blue chip player of a true national champion contender. I don't think MSU will get it done this year either but I guess if you get the right draw you could make a run.

If you just look at this year. Auburn has Broome, Duke has Flagg, Florida has Clayton, Bama has Sears. Last year you had Purdue with Edey, an incredibly stacked UConn team with Clingan, Tennessee with Knect, etc.

The two teams Illinois teams I thought were capable of winning a title either had TJ or Ayo and Kofi. Three all American caliber guys and two of them were nPOY candidates.

It just seems like the best blue chip programs are getting deeper and more talented with NIL and the portal, so you need kind of need a guy that's capable of taking over when you need a bucket.

Stevie Wonder can see that.

I don’t think I’m comfortable going through the portal with Morez and Tre written in the starting lineup in pen. Kylan is more of an off guard. Morez is a tweener that I don’t want shooting 3s. For right now I’m Kylan & Tomi should be only two absolute no doubt starters. We need a primary PG and a 4 imo. Maybe Tre could settle in, in year 2 but be was an absolute roller coaster especially with his 3 point shooting & even he wasn’t a plus defender.
We were playing our best basketball with Tomi and Morez starting. If Morez doesn’t start he will be gone

Really? Now I am very intrigued. I need to go watch some more film.

This… what I was eluding in my earlier post. Totally agree.

Mehhhh, I don't know why these peeps think it's cool to hide from the regular folks. Guess It's a sign of the times, Clicks = $. I don't think it will last much longer though. Why leave a +50% of the potential viewers on the outside? Immediately excludes 1/2 the population and It just creates a aura of cringeworthiness to anything you would post to that +50% of potential viewers. I've personally NEVER signed up for 1 SINGLE website that requires this crap. And I am an ARDENT consumer of what I consider QUALITY content. Just goes to show what I've always come to believe, even pre-internet, that most people have zero clue and not a lick of common sense.......Note to posters on Illinois Loyalty. Do your fellow posters a solid and note your post (In the 1st sentence) as free or paid. And I consider having to 'sign-up' as PAID !!! Paying with info counts the same as paying with $ in my book!!!

Sarr can move between the 3 and 4, even the 2 if necessary. He’s extremely versatile like that. I think you can interchange lineups with Tre the 3 and Sarr the 4, then to get “bigger” you have Sarr the 3 and Morez the 4.
Might not have been clear before but I was referencing Kostic. Not sure where we’d have room for him with Sarr, White, and a portal wing.

I don’t disagree with you but I think a lot of folks are forgetting he was a starter on an Elite 8 team. Say what you want but the guy can hoop.
I think a lot of folks are forgetting he chose not to play this year. Wasn’t going to get the role he thought he deserved, and rather than leaving it all on the floor competing for minutes like the EDG everyone likes to say he is, he left his butt on the bench instead. Presumably, he didn’t have an issue collecting his NIL money though.

He is built more like Karl Malone and with a little more time to work on his skill that would be awesome. I think he is a old school power 4 crashing the boards like the former Bull/Knick Charles Oakley tgat can play the 5 and Tomi is a modern stretch 5.
I love Morez. But he's not a threat to score beyond five feet. He doesn't have a face-up game and never will. He's a center.

Was that a problem this year? If so, that won't change just by turning the calendar.

When Tre was signed last Spring, I said I was "unimpressed." I didn't want a kid from two loser programs (USC, Louisville).

After this year, watching his (exasperating) ups and downs, thinking it over and learning that he wants to come back -- if the price is right, and it should be, we need to bring back a kid that can accept the hard-nosed coaching our head coach doles out. I now think Tre is, today, exactly what we need during desparate times on the court. And there will be desparate times when pursuing a National Championship. I hope we get him back.
Tre strikes me as a player who benefitted from being in a winning program and being surrounded by great people/players/coaches.

The midseason alleged argument with Brad likely put a lot into perspective for him and made him better as not only a player but a leader that this team desperately needs alongside Kylan and Tomi.

His attitude coming out of that DNP streak was night and day difference and his interviews towards the end of the season signaled he had grown a lot in a short amount of time.

What I would covet about Tre (assuming the price is right for him) is that even with declined usage he has gotten better in core areas - IE defensive rebounding%, FT Rate, FT %, 2pt % and 3pt %.

If he continues that streak and stays as a low usage high impact player it will be really hard to keep him off court. He is exactly what Brad wants in that type of player, best athlete on the team (outside of DGL in terms of pure athleticism), does not need offense run through him and has high defensive potential at his size 6'7".

Personally I believe Tre's retention is as important for continuity, culture and toughness as Tomi and Kylan.

Just my two cents tho.

I think the question with Tre is how bought in is he? Is he willing to let the game come to him and not force things like he did when he came back from the doghouse? Will he be all in for the full season? Would he be willing to be a 6th man if it makes the team better?

He quietly shot 46% from 3 in the 9 games after returning (65% from 2). Only on 28 attempts and obviously a small sample size but he is a way better player when he is taking rhythm shots from spots he's comfortable and slashing to the basket.

I think both him and Boswell are kind of interesting cases. For example are we getting last February and March Boswell who was fantastic or are we getting the version that was awful?

Absolutely, this video is from his 21 pt game for Barcelona A team couple weeks ago. I had not seen it yet. That athleticism combined with the shot making ability... the ceiling is so high

Thanks for posting. Great highlights. Is this Barca’s A team or something else?

I hear what you are saying as well as in your other post- you are looking for the “go-to clear #1 guy” to feel like it’s a final four team. That’s where we disagree, I think if you have a team of “A” players, all of whom can go get you a bucket and have some “dog” in them, you can win with that- UConn didn’t have one go to guy last year and they dominated, MSU didn’t have that this year and won the big ten easily. KJ was that for us this year but we also lost because of him.

I think I’m also just higher on a lot of the players we have coming back- KJ, Tre, Tomi, Dix can all go get you a bucket when you need one. And I think Sarr can be a Star. You can never predict the adjustment it will take a player coming over but he’s a year more experienced than KJ was coming over and already playing with grown men

Why can’t we have announcers like that here? Would much rather listen to that than Jay Billis, Grant Hill, Bill Rafferty, Ian Eagle, etc
