If I could guarantee you in the next 5 years:

- Top 10 in the nation in wins
- Top 2 in the big ten in wins
- 2 regular season big ten championships
- 2 BTT championships
- Make all 5 NCAATs
- 20 or more wins every year
- 3 All Americans
- 4 first round draft picks
- a 1 seed, 3 seed, 4 seed, and 6 seed
- and an Elite Eight

Would you take it?

I’d say there was a lot of opportunity left on the table and I can name quite a few coaches who would’ve got more than one elite 8 out of that group of talent …

One second weekend in 5 years ?? IMO that’s unacceptable …

It is tough because he is not maximizing what he has but at same coin is giving you decent results and now an uptick in NBA guys.

Really wish he would get his head out of his A

Maybe just my opinion … Could give a crap if we have one and done NBA guys …

Give me guys who are freaking winners … Trent, DMFW, Feliz … And guys who are really, really good but need multiple years of college like Ayo, Kofi and TJ … And sprinkle in some portal guys and recruit good HS freshman who will sit for a year or two and then be ready for a role …

Those are the teams that win …

This 💩 isn’t rocket science … And switching strategies from young to old to young to old constantly isn’t gonna work …

Watch MSU & Purdue case in point.. Our team this year is "more talented" but that talent didn't mean squat.. They are still playing and we aren't. They have continuity, toughness, and dogs...

Any chance Josh Whitman calls Chris Beard’s agent to gauge his interest?

How many programs have been to 2 sweet 16s in the last 8 years? How many been to 1? A National Championship isn’t the standard but Sweet 16s every 2 or 3 years is expected given the resources being put into the program.
Honest question - would you be ok with us missing the tournament this year if it meant we would make the Sweet 16 next year?

Why do posters always have to put forth these sort of hypotheticals? (nothing personal, many posters do it) The answer is he11 no! We want at a minimum a Sweet 16 next year and THEN an Elite 8 or better the following year!!!

You would've been calling for Painter's head in 2021, when he was a 4 seed and lost in the first round against a 13 seed. And if not then, definitely in 2023, when he was a 1 seed and lost in the first round to a 16 seed.

I promised an update …

Here’s what I’ve got …

Reason for Mack not going to Xavier … AD went rogue and against boosters … Pitino better win and win big …

I expect Willard to Nova …

Buzz Williams to Maryland is “done” if Willard goes to Nova and I’ve heard Chester Frazier would likely join Buzz at Maryland … Could see Buck and Hansberry at Maryland … Wouldn’t that be something …

I’m hearing if Tennessee goes out strong this could be it for Barnes … Same goes for Izzo … I’d put both in retirement watch but nothing set in stone …

Lastly - I am hearing that Texas A&M would pursue Brad if they were to be in search mode …

Brad to Texas A&M sounds like a perfect match. Go for Brad. You and your agent go get paid at the cult school.

Feel like if dominoes start to fall, Chris Beard's name will be brought up frequently. Had no idea he was making $5mil at Ole Miss tho...

I just don’t understand how Underwood look at this and think everything is fine.

I’m so tired of “Plan A, but better.” If he can’t do it on his own, then his boss needs to deal with it.

I agree. The hypothetical was a weird one, IMO. Given the resources available here, it is not unreasonable to be competing for at least a 4 seed on a yearly basis, with this year being the "off year" as a 6 seed. That should leave for a reasonable path to at least a S16 or better every other year. The programs that consistently play in the second weekend are the higher seeds in both first weekend games. The problem for Brad and Co., is that they have only a 1/3 success rate when being a 4 seed or better to make second weekend, and it is a rare Illini occurrence to win as the lower seed team.

Agreed. I mean I could probably be ok with missing one per decade due to an injury or something.

But my point is, there are only like 5 programs that have gone to the tournament every year this decade AND made the Sweet 16 multiple times. It's not as common as people think.

I've said it before, but I think we should be getting to the S16 about 3 or 4 times per decade. So Brad has his work cut out for him if he wants to hit that mark. But let's also not pretend that going to the tournament every year and getting to the S16 on a regular basis is like the bare minimum for success here. There are blue bloods who don't even do that.

Brads stubbornness seems insurmountable at times.. his commitment to Ben H almost seems like a spite to the haters who realized he was a bust before Brad.. his commitment to Tyler/hamer seem to be in direct conflict with claiming he wants to win and compete for titles. Doubt we see a shakeup but would be very curious to see what direction JW goes

A&M can have him.

Take the buyout money and do everything possible to lure Chris Beard. If the moral issues around Beard are too much, then look at Mark Byington at Vanderbilt.
