This is exactly the cause for all the consternation. It's painfully obvious to everyone that we need to chase shiny objects less and develop more. Saying that we would lose our minds if the staff retained and developed players is wild.

Michigan State has 7 RSCI top 50 players on their roster. So talent and continuity isn't an either or thing. You can do both well.
I mean, Brad apparently wants to retain and develop Ben and the peanut gallery is having a conniption. And yes, he’ll be super-super-senior with only two years available to the program, but even TSJ wasn’t super-star TSJ his first year with the team. Not saying Ben will ever be TSJ’s level, but reasonable growth from one year to the next is highly reasonable.

I don't think it matters if Tyler does well or not as a coach. I do not think Head Coaches making the type of money they do a their assistants do should be allowed to hire their children. It is a major conflict of interests plus can lead to other issues on the staff and with players. I am not saying this happenned at Illinois. I know I have had leadership positions and could not hire my kids. I actually agree with this policy and if Tyler ever leaves I hope uts one Josh Whitman implements going forward. Tough to do now.
I’ve only had a couple experiences with nepotism in the workplace and never works out. It created uncomfortable situations for co-workers, problems for the family members, it’s not good.

Closing in on two bigs, should be getting a commitment from one somewhat soon.
My question is What is the identity of Illinois basketball? What is Brad’s coaching philosophy? This is not how to build a championship basketball program. You can’t win a championship or be successful with high turnover living and dying in portal. Once again no team continuity. A brand new team with a bunch of guys that have never played together and never been coached by Underwood. Getting a bunch of paid mercenaries that are just at Illinois to get a paycheck and not because they actually care about Illinois basketball. This is not sustainable .

Or the dealer who suggests to Chevy after many losing sessions...how about we go out back and I beat the crap out of you and we call it good.
Right movie?
Correct movie. Many good scenes. Eddie digging up money that he collected from selling his body parts, the "cheap" Vegas games (War, guess number, etc.), and Wayne Newton.

and not guard anybody. guards go right around him and bigs
push him out of bounds. how does a 6-10 kid have those miserable
rebound numbers? look, he didn't rebound or defend in the valley.

Here is an interesting stat. Fouls per 40 minutes:

Ben Humrichous 2.3
Tomislav Ivišić 3.5
Morez Johnson 5.7
I get the data. But when you know your minutes are going to be limited, and you'll get yanked at any moment, then you play differently. With a lot more reckless abandon, often trying to make the "big" play.

If Josh Whitman isn’t careful he’s going to have another Iowa on his hands. Players needed to win championships won’t be interested and he’ll have a good but stubborn coach on his hands that has stagnated the program. Not there yet but headed there. Especially when the donor $$ dries up.
We are all different levels of upset about the state of things but we should probably remember where this program was before Brad Underwood. Look at where Indiana is right now. Brad will continue to do what he wants as long as they keep showing graphics of UI winning more than anyone else.

Not saying there aren't issues but if the floor is making the dance every year and competing for B1G titles and protected seeds that is an enviable position.

Expecting two more transfers out, three at most. Kylan and Tomi are locked in for sure, as is Jason, I am leaning Ty staying over Tre right now as well. Still think 1/2 of Jake/Ben is back.
Thank the lord. Ony thing that can stop the bleeding. Now we just got to find dudes that can shoot, be more athletic, and have that bite to them.

How many 5 star recruits does Matt Painter have on his roster. He's a believer in system recruits and development. Our fans here would want to DESTROY Brad if he didn't bring in a top 15 class with NBA prospects.

Izzo does the same thing. You don't see MSU chasing one and dones. He's a system guy that is only interested in guys who commit to the program and not the NBA after one year.

Our fans wouldn't accept that style of recruiting. This off-season is a great example. Here we are again with our main targets who want to be drafted in a year. What do you expect is going to happen?

How many players off of Purdue are going to be drafted? They'll be back for year four because they committed to the program, not the NBA.

Our fans would absolutely lose their minds with an off-season like that. They have coaches that don't believe in the portal and lean on development.

That's not us. We're chasing Dame Sarr and are trying to come up with 7 figures to bring other transfers in.
As opposed to now?

That sounds like a typical, random, off-season Thursday…this year or last.

Born and raised in the actual city of Chicago,Illinois not the suburbs . First Illinois basketball game I attended was in November 1980. Graduated from the University of Illinois in 1998. You are not going to try shame me or talk down to me because I’m not a delusional Brad Underwood fanboy like yourself. I cheer for the University of Illinois not Brad Underwood. I’ve seen Lou Henson, Lon Krueger, Bill Self, Bruce Weber and John Groce and that list Brad Underwood has the second worst NCAA tournament record and Big Ten success Just ahead of Groce . None of these Illinois basketball coaches before Brad Underwood had NIL the Transfer Portal and brand new state of the art basketball facilities.Facts don’t care about your feelings. Go do some research

Both programs made the second weekend and Izzo may make the 3rd.

Only thing that matters in the end is what you do with who you got.

Sure makes you wonder how many millionaires are going to continue to line up and throw money and our BB program when they can’t figure out who is on the roster every 9 months. If they want culture, everyday guys, hard workers and all the other BS Underwood spouts off and can’t deliver on then they will leave. That’s when Underwood leaves also. He can’t recruit, then keep and develop talent in today’s game that much is obvious. The money guys will tire of him quickly is my guess.
