Where would Brad Underwood and Illinois be without Terrence Shannon Jr. You take Terrence off Illinois Underwood hasn’t done much in the Transfer Portal. Let me say this again. The only reason Terrence ended up at Illinois is because he couldn’t get into Michigan with Juwan Howard. Michigan was his first choice. Terrence was the best player in college basketball last season. Terrence is the reason for the Elite 8 run . This is going to end badly. You can’t keep getting a group of new players every year and expect to be successful. Just a bunch of paid mercenaries that are at Illinois to collect a paycheck. They don’t truly care about Illinois basketball . Transfer Portal is a gamble anyway. Look at Ben and Booth two huge misses

It can piss off the manager if her or his boss does exit interviews with her or his direct reports

i was following the last thread (as close as manageable. That thing was on fire). A couple of observations:

1. The delta between outsider perception of our bball program vs the “hardcore” fans must be as big as I’ve ever seen over my 20+ years of fandom for any sport. I don’t really know what that means, but it’s fascinating. I don’t think any outsider “expert” or even casual Illini fan thinks there are any major issues. While this board is basically melting down. Frankly, I think, to some degree, the outsider perception tends to be more accurate in these situations.

2. If I were JW, unless there’s a donor revolt going on, I’d just give BU all the rope he wants and see if he hangs himself. At this point, forcing him to make changes to his staff is probably a low probability of success proposition vs the other options. The next natural question then is what is the definition of success next season to help decide what you do after you gave him the rope. I think that’s one or more of 1) big ten regular season championship 2) big ten tourney champ or 3) sweet sixteen. But this is a debatable point.

3. I’m not surprised at all, but this new nil world is really killing my interest in college sports. The revenue sharing model will make it worse, imo. Any association with the school itself is becoming a clownish fallacy. I’m totally in support of athletes benefitting from their nil, but it has to be on a more sustainable structure.
We saw the potential of this group at Oregon and at a couple of the other big wins. We saw the beat down with Duke and a couple others also. Point being, potential was there, was the staff going to be able to get it out of them? So why should we have expected Kentucky to be our end game? Based on recent comments (Tyler / Hammer), it appears the staff may have lost player buy in somewhere after Oregon at some point. Watching the unhappy mugs of DGL, Booth, Tre, Morez at times may have taken a bigger toll on team chemistry than everyone thinks. Did it affect KJ? Seems like the players were plenty good enough to win. The “why” they didn’t come together needs to be considered.

Agree, look for good info from illini hoopster buffs that know what is going on.

I wouldn't hold your breath. A few of the goofs in here ran them off because of their over emotional rants. Lost two players and lost two insiders. The players, we can easily replace. The insiders, not so much.

Well done. Smh
