I don't buy the fear of the Big East. I think they earn too little (even with a lot of money going to football in other conferences). We also don't really know how the enforcement of NIL restrictions will go.

Depends on the debt. Often times those big donations are actually pledges to service debt. As it may not make financial sense to sell off 10 million dollars worth of your company in one shot just to get your name on the building.

Not even close. Grew up in central Illinois, spent 2 years in Lubbock. You’re 5 hours from Dallas. It’s the middle of nowhere.

I think basically the only selling point would be that the Big10 has a lot of good/solid programs but lacks the true top end ones.

Oats could realistically probably run the Big10 like Self did the Big12.

I don't know if that's enough to pry him away from Bama and a sizeable buyout but he could legitimately probably win the Big10 every year.

Doesn't seem necessarily realistic imo but if you legitimately could get Oats, I would push Brad out in a heartbeat.

Id actually argue the complete opposite.

Illinois has the i-80/55 corridor which is the largest inland transportation hub in the country. They are located on Lake Michigan and are one the few areas in the country that still has a bit of a manufacturing base.

Illinois is in a uniquely strong position going forward with the impact of climate change growing yearly.

The Great lakes in particular are in a good spot though Wisconsin has a weak state government and Michigan has to do a lot of rebuilding. Minnesota and Illinois are in a great position to capitalize.

Alabama basketball will always play 2nd fiddle to their football team. It will always be a football school.

How long does Oats wanna put up with that …

Oats said it after the game … Gotta get that 1 seed … Easier to get a 1 seed in the Big Ten than the SEC …

He had to beg on his hands and knees just to get P Murph $675,000 …

Are we bringing up Underwood replacements because we believe he's gone or are those that want him gone day dreaming?

I’m sure he wouldn’t “only” leave for Kansas. And I’m not sure it would be much of a restart given our recent success and resources. I’m sure some players would follow him also

I’m also sure he would leave Illinois for a blue blood when the time came

Alabama has been a better basketball school than Illinois for 20 years. They have been to 4 Sweet 16s in the last 5 years. We’ve been to 1 in 20 years.

Oats gets paid more than Underwood. SEC is the best basketball conference. Alabama has plenty of resources. No way Oats is coming here.

It very well may be in a couple years. Let's see how the Illini footballers do next season compared to the hoopsters...

Seems like he could go straight to a blue blood from Bama. He’s had a lot of success there.

We'd be soo good to him.

He'd wake up in the morning and we'd be right there, just being good to him.

I’m asking this earnestly as I’d love for it to be remotely plausible - and I’ll even add that I of course understand why JW would make that call, as it’d be a beyond incredible hire to make in the event it could be made -

What can we offer Oats that Alabama doesn’t already?
A fan base (and donors) that cares about round balls.
