Wasn’t even on the table …
You've hinted at DeVries being difficult to work with/for and perhaps burning bridges. Is it safe to assume that "wasn't even on the table" is another example of that?

Chester hates IU … He would never ever work there … Wouldn't even consider it … That’s the majority of the reason …

Do I think Chester would’ve stayed at WVU even if DeVries stayed … No … And it’s not really think … I know Chester would’ve left … Lol …

It’s not a coincidence literally only 1 assistant and 1 player (his own son) followed DeVries to IU …

Is this what Sencire was referencing with his tweet or was it Illinois?

Interesting about DeVries. I may be way off base here but I feel like the politics of that job would be a challenge to navigate in that a lot of the big donors, administrators etc are all still very much in the Knight cult of personality. So I could see even a well qualified outsider having challenges in that environment. If DeVries is abrasive and off putting as an outsider I can see him alienating key people pretty quickly. But again know nothing about IU world. Just my impression and why they were happy to stick with Woodson as long as they did, as he’s in tight with that crowd.

Chester was at VT before wasn’t he?
When Mike Young left Wofford for VT he hired Chester from K-State (where Bruce was still HC, IIRC). CF spent two seasons there before joining us in C-U. VT took a huge (pre-portal era) recruiting hit when CF left.

Young is getting close to retirement. Really hope this leads to the HC position for Chester there. If it's not going to be with the Illini, I want it to be @ VT.

[EDIT: Am still annoyed that BU let him slip away]

Maybe Chester can cut his teeth as the next HC at VT, kick butt doing so, and then come in and succeed Underwood here after he retires with 3 consecutive championships.

I mean, if they loved Bobby Knight, wouldn't abrasive and off-putting be the traits they are looking for?

I could see that going one of two ways.

1) The expected way of people schooled in the Knight culture saying "we aren't going to accept this guy who's also pretty abrasive" and making his life miserable.
2) The unexpected way of people saying, "Hey, he has some of that same abrasive quality that Knight had, and we like it. We need to back him."

I would fully anticipate 1) would be more likely, but like @Emerson Bigguns said 2) might be something those in the Knight culture really like.
