He should call their BLUFF and say no. Every year Brad does this, JW needs to lay the hammer down and say…

”I get it; your agent needs to do his job. And I’m doing mine. There is going to be no extension/raise discussion. Right this ship, make the necessary assistant changes, and get Illinois back on track to pre-2024 results next season. If that happens, I’ll welcome that discussion next off-season.”

Texas AM is not paying $26 million just to sign BU up (this is basketball, not football at AM). BU has the 3rd highest buyout in college bball, JW didn't just structure it like that just by chance.

While at Alabama Nate Oats uses the first week of the tourney as a warm-up. I wouldn't be shocked if Alabama pre-books the teams hotel in January for the second weekend (/s). (2) Sweet 16s (1) E8 (1) Final 4, all since 2021. We have that in the last 25 years.

Buzz is a fine coach, considering their current situation in college park that’s as close to a perfect hire as one can expect.

That being said I don’t think Buzz is objectively a better coach than Willard.

Why exactly?

Buzz Williams and Kevin Willard have both been head coaches since 2007.

Buzz: 373-228 (.621), 11 NCAA, 4 season in final AP top 20.

Kevin: 335-249 (.574), 7 NCAA, 2 season in final AP top 20.

And if his people did not do that, they would be fired. Never heard of a good agent that was not trying to maximize their client's (and by extension, their own) pay.
Here's the real reason. The more a client gets paid (whether in salary or endorsement deals), the more the agent gets paid since they generally work on some sort of commission. So the more Underwood gets paid, the more his agent gets paid.

Simple economics - follow the money.

I think Willard was the most unlikeable coach in the Big. I’m glad I don’t have to see that dudes face twice a year.
Yeah, I would honestly say he was the only Big Ten coach I ACTIVELY disliked last year. I mean sure, I have thought Izzo was annoying ever since his public grandstanding in support of us keeping Weber (notice he did the same thing about Iowa/Fran and all of the other coaches he usually outperforms!!) ... but I don't TRULY dislike him. I KIND OF disliked Fran, but it honestly mostly had to do with him being at Iowa. Cronin seems like he can be a jerk, but I don't truly know enough about him.

Willard is the only one who just seems like a straight-up dlck.

We need someone to be a good Heel though. There aren't enough of them left in the B1G, particularly if Izzo retires. Who wants to respect and admire their opponents?! Give me all the Frans and Juwans and Dillards and Cronins and Izzos you can cram into this conference.

Fran was so fun to hate though. Weirdly makes him likeable.
