No idea who he is, but he isn't wrong about being on pins and needles waiting for AJ Redd's "I'm back".

So are you telling me this is fake? From Bryce Calhour on Twitter: Breaking:
Italian SG Dame Sarr has announced his commitment to Illinois via Snapchat story#TheAcquisition #ILL
I think if we haven't seen anything else and he posted that 17 hours ago - then it's not real. There was another fake tweet a few days ago saying the same thing - either people just trying to get clicks or unknowingly posting fake posts from other fake posts

Kind of like all the Dix posts being put out by Indiana, Iowa, Creighton and even some fringe Illinois sources.

Indy , Lville

Is it the Sellers and Z camps that are dragging their feet or the Illini ?

Can you give your opinions on why ?

I know all thought we would have word on a couple in the last few days but nothing yet.

I know sometimes it seems like people don't appreciate your comments but more do than don't by a landslide , Thank you both !
If we can remember back, Tomislav took a minute to announce as well. It's probably just truly a situation of when they're ready (unless another school comes in with a crazy offer out of nowhere, etc).

Dix is a way more intriguing recruitment here.

@ILL21 regarding Ognjen Stanković, the 6-8 Serbian guard that has hired an agent and looking to play college next year. I have no idea if we're involved, but I'm not that high on him myself. He wasn't nearly the propest that KJ or Sarr were in the U18 leagues, he had a good U19 tournament last summer that put him on the radar, but hasn't done much since. He plays in the ABA (same league that Tomi played in), but has even less of an impact role on his team than Tomi and but he's 20 playing with men/pros.

My bigger issue with him is he's a 6'8 wing that has good athleticism and can handle the ball some, but isn't a great shooter, nor rebounder nor distributor, he's he doesn't have a standout skill that will translate to the college game, and he's going to go against 6'8 wings in college that are just as good of athlete and I don't know how he scores and he won't be a good defender. If he was a lights out 3 point shooter, that could be his thing, but there isn't much history to say he is, he's shooting well on very low volume this year, but has never been a good 3 point shooter in the past. I think he's a Pass

Just hit the portal, looks like a player:

Two triple doubles this year. He's late 2nd round in some mocks so would probably wants to go somewhere he can start and showcase himself for NBA scouts. Not sure how that fits with us roster construction-wise. We may be looking more looking for a PG to spell Boz at times rather than to be primary.

One WR announces one way or the other other dominoes will fall into place…..I think
Illinois won’t wait for WR to make his decision in June. If WR wants to wait for June and his replacement (say Sarr) will commit conditional on WR not being on the team then Illinois will take Sarr. You don’t wait and lose both of them. This same scenario happened for Illinois last year.

@Dan Not sure where to put this. Thought there was a NIL thread, but couldn’t find it. Chose here as linked article talks more about bball.

I have some general questions about NIL — at U of I and nationally. Questions are prompted by the article about NIL reporting at U of I

and also someone on an Oregon State board who is convinced no one is receiving nowhere near the NIL amounts being bandied about and cites information about NIL money from other universities, the latest being Baylor.

First question is, do all NIL deals go through the collective. For instance, if I owned a business in Champaign that wanted to set up a NIL deal with a couple of players, do I have to arrange that through ICON or can I just reach out to those players directly if I did that and players didn’t report it to University then this wouldn’t be in the NIL totals reported. Not looking at the this from a tax purposes perspective as I’d assume the business is paying the kids and issuing the proper tax/earnings forms, but just as an overall reporting issue trying to keep track of NIL.

Second, we hear about big NIL numbers and also individual donors who will step up with large “gifts.” Are all these donations/deals coordinated or run through the collective and/or reported to the university. Again, not looking at this from a tax/legality perspective but rather why “official” numbers often don’t jive with the numbers thrown around on social media.

An Oregon State bball player reportedly just got a 7 figure NIL deal with Baylor. A person on an OSU board contends that is bogus. He cited these numbers:

54% of the approximately 700 student athletes get any kind of NIL deal. The have about 260 national "partners" and (3) main collectives... approximately $3.3 mil in total compensation spread across all sports, about $4k average for about 380 athletes. 75-80% of NIL money is funneled toward football.

The numbers were likely gathered fro here.

These numbers are well below what anecdotally is reported for large universities unless Baylor is actually on the outside looking in when it comes to NIL. So is this just like in the case of the Illinois article, numbers are just not being reported to Baylor accurately? Trying to figure out how all these things fit together when often when “official” NIL numbers are reported by institutions, they don’t jive with the numbers thrown around on social media.

Thanks.
