We need (1) a powerful Broome-like 4 (mega rebounder and a pounder in the paint --- (2) a superb shooter like Storr, in Wisky form --- and, (3) hopefully year 2 of Will.

I'll then feel pretty good.

For people looking for a comp on David Mirkovic…

If you remember when we played Duquesne last year and they had a 4 named Jakub Necas, he plays a very similar game. Good footwork, great step-back, slow but intentional. He does shoot the ball much better from outside though. Would be a great add but will take time to adapt to a much faster and physical game over here. I think Tomi and Z will make sure he’s ready.

Show of hands… how many of you here have formed an opinion on Zach Hamer through first hand experience and inside knowledge of his capabilities and how many of you are just doing a junior high school style parroting of one vocal but influential person who seems to have an irrational, personal hatred for the guy and the way he dresses.

Look… I haven’t been happy with Illinois’ defense these past two years and if that’s all on the shoulders of Hamer he needs to either get better or go. But dear God… the juvenile name calling and constant sniping is bordering on Todd Goldin-level creepy.

Cant speak for everyone, but personally my dislike is more towards Brad for keeping him in the position he's in when it's obvious watching games and seeing the defensive stats decline each of the past two years that he's in way over his head. But maybe that's just me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Storr was ever a superb shooter. Superb athlete yes, but not that great of a shooter. I remember him scoring a lot at Wisky because he shot a lot.

Honestly, never knew why he was elevated to an assistant.

Experience:
First two seasons as Illini video coordinator.
Arrived at Illinois in the summer of 2019 after spending the previous two seasons on staff with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was an advance scout in 2019 after debuting as a coaching associate in 2018.
Along with his NBA experience, he spent the 2018 season in the WNBA, serving as video coordinator for the Indiana Fever.

Sorry, doesn't scream P5 assistant coach material yet.

Also when he picked up two fouls in the first half, things bogged down. Having 10 fouls available is a huge step up in what the team can do on defense. Not to mention JJ. And if Hummer is back and steps up a notch, we may not need another big. Or not, but don't count Hummer out just yet as he has a season of B1G play and knows what he needs to do. Never doubt a veteran player with a want to attitude willing to work his tail off.

Yes, I have absolutely seen a picture of Hamer in those leggings. It was a very poor choice.
