This kid would be instant offense off the bench! But not a great defender. His numbers (i.e. efficiency) did seem to slide from his second/last year at SLU to this past season at McNeese. Parker was a great player at Moberly (MO) Area Community College before going to SLU. He could definitely play the "Justin Harmon role" for the Illini.

Want …

But …

Robert Wright would be a GREAT addition for Duke. I'm guessing that he'd be very difficult for Illinois to sign. Both the money and the role would be problematic.

first thing i noticed were his low minutes compared to his output. Would be a great spark plug.

One of the worst things about transfer season/the portal is that it gives voice to complete morons that act like experts/insiders who just throw out all kinds of crap looking for clicks. And I’m not talking about any of the insiders on here…I’m talking about social media.

@Indy Illini Fan Any reason as to why our staff isn't interested in Wesley Yates? On paper he is everything Underwood wants, especially his shooting!
Are they not interested? Or do they think U of I has no chance? $$$ ? Yates's shooting stats are better across the board than Robert Wright's. (Of course, Wright is a PG!) And Wesley Yates plays a position of need for the Illini. I think Kentucky, for example, has already reached out to yates.

I think Riley's future in the NBA is at guard, not forward. He and his family should talk to Underwood about him returning as a full-time guard. Basically he and Boswell can play together like Dee Brown and Deron Williams did for Illinois. Riley can work on his ball handling, passing and shooting. Right now if he stays in the NBA draft an NBA team might play him as a forward.

How about his teammate Samage Teel
Again, the numbers/stats for Teel are interesting. Would he be willing to come to Illinois and be the backup PG to Kylan Boswell this season? If so, and depending on the price, he might be a take for the Illini.

His second year at SLU he only played in 16 games. Looks like with a greater sample size, he just reverted back to his career stats.

Samage is one of the several guys in the portal with seemingly no eligibility left. It’s the NCAA after all so I’m sure they’ll set a new precedent but he played 2 seasons of D2, a year at Presbyterian and a year at ISU.

When he came back to the team, part way through his second season at SLU, following an injury, Parker had a week or two of 30+ point games. But then he was unfortunately injured again.

So ... same as Humrichous (except Huntington is 2 years of D3).

While you're at it, check on Center Efton Reid III of Wake Forest. He's apparently listed in the portal, but he's played 4 consecutive seasons of at least 25 games; 1 at LSU, 1 at Gonzaga, and 2 at Wake Forest.

I could be wrong but I believe the difference is NAIA is not affiliated with the NCAA so falls under the same precedent as juco as far as not counting. D2 (CIAA) where Samage played is.

If he were to come back and play guard, he could potentially be the #1 overall pick next year. Set for life.

I don't think it's even that - even if they had a signed NIL, just like Morez, the player can bolt if his agent is still shopping him to see what deals he could have gotten and he thinks he can get more elsewhere, or frankly teams are tampering all the time now, so even if a player has signed teams are in his agent's ear telling him he can get more. It's a mess. How will teams know when their roster is even "set". Someone can come tamper with anyone that is signed and get them to back out of the deal and leave anyway. It's really chaos until the player is enrolled at your school for the fall, so it's hard to feel good about anything. The NCAA really needs to change the rules as everyone has said

Absolutely. That's what I meant when I said it doesn't solve the problem, only that it makes it more likely to work out and that you still need good communication on your side, and people with decent character on the other. Having dealt with this in professional settings, my experience is that you can usually sniff out what's happening in the background and make calculated risks. I'm sure that collectively the staff has seen it all by now and my sense is they're ahead of the curve in avoiding problems, or at least getting an early warning so they walk when the risks get high.
