Very cool. Love a west coast IPA as well. Otho g beats that bitter but citrusy punch.

Tried brewing myself but I stink at it. Something about drinking while I’m doing g it that didn’t work. I own a brewery in Chicago now, but leave the brewing to others.

I’ll drink scotch too, but the price and taste typically lead me back to bourbon. Irish whiskey is pretty great though and I’ll go for Redbreast any time.
Which brewery do you own? I don’t get back to Chicago much but if I am in the city, I’ll stop by.

I'm gonna show you all the best Single Malt Scotch I've personally ever had here in a moment. Waiting for the pics to downoad..... I found it at Binny's in St Louis 6-7 years ago and have been hoarding it ever since. It's a special occasion pour.

In case you can't enlarge the pics for some reason I'll give the details. 22 yo aged in a Sherry Hogshead cask Gordon & MacPhail from the Royal Brackla Distillery. Limited run of 224 bottles. It was in their locked case of the 'good stuff'. I had just sold something on ebay and made $300 profit so I treated myself to this as a Christmas present. It is sooo good! I think even discounted I still paid somewher between $250-$300. Still the most expensive bottle I've bought. I came close last year with a Blanton Straight from the Barrell Bourbon I luckily ran across in a small town liquor store. I haven't tried it yet, kinda scared, cuz I think regular Blanton's is just..... okay.

I own a place called Ramova. In Bridgeport by Comiskey.

We’re partnered w Other Half Brewing and have a 10bbl brewery on site. IPAs, lighter lagers, etc.

We have a taproom and a music venue so it’s a mix of beers.

I went to Other Half in NYC before the Duke game! Same brewery? My fave was the Broccoli, amazing! I don't even remember the other 2 I tried, lol. When you click on the Rockefeller location the main pic all the way to the right against the window is where my daughter and I stood while sampling some beers. There was one other small Illini group in there that we chatted with briefly on their way out the door.

Nice. Yes, same brewery. They were my local spot when I lived in Brooklyn, so when we started work on this project it only made sense to do it with them.

Looks like a cool joint! I assume the beers are not sold anywhere but at the venue?

We have a few of those types of bottles. Down here, Total Wine is our equivalent to Binny's and my wife, since she buys a lot of wine, is in their platinum level of their rewards club (or whatever the top is called, I don't really know) and she gets access to top bottles similar to yours so we get things that look interesting.

I see posts on Reddit frequently about getting excellent deals on great/rare whiskey/bourbon... NEVER happens at my Costco. I suspect it is primarily in the midwest that this happens, shorter shipping routes from Tenn/KY. I was introduced to OGD114 this past summer's trip to Illinois. Had never had it before and I loved it! To me it was great neat and I was able to do 3 pours, no problem. A secret cheap pleasure of mine is Very Old Bartons 100 proof. Don't buy the 86 proof! I can drink it neat but mostly use it in Old Fashions. The easy to find WT101 is my typical pour for an OF or with soda.
Agreed. VOB 100, Old Grandad114 and Wild Turkey 101 are all solid, afforsable shelfers.

If you are getting into whisky some additional non-allocated shelfers Ive enjoyed are

Ryes

Jack daniels barrel strength rye, jack daniels bottled in bond rye, bardstown origins rye

Irish
redbreast lustau whiskey, redbreast cask strength, yellow spot

that's right. We're preparing to can soon, and we'll have some "Chicago only" Other Half offerings. We also have some White Sox collabs and other beers we'll be doing too, along with some artist beers, etc. Should be fun.

These are all great. Wild Turkey Rare Breed is another bottle that's so damn good, and pretty easy to find.

Enjoying a Balvenie Doublewood right now. One of my faves that I always keep stocked for something different. Seems to always be a good pour, pretty consistent.

I was just getting a bit nostalgic and looking through my old posts (I don't post much). There used to be a beer thread that was used to share beer reviews and other things.

The thread was locked so I'm hoping this doesn't break any rules (no offense taken if Dan deletes).

So, what's everyone drinking, any breweries or distillieries you dig, etc.

Me:
- I'm still a glutton for hazies, sours, and balanced stouts
- For bourbon, love about anything sazarac, four roses
We are similar. I like sours and milk or oat stouts, wheat beers, and malty beers. I dislike hops with a passion. Four roses is my favorite but I’m not a connoisseur

Just tried a bunch of Bardstown and Green River bourbon last week. Almost all affordable and tasted great. Would recommend anything from the those distillieries.

I’m not a whiskey/liquor drinker but I’ve always liked beer. Alas, I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I can’t have barley so…no beer. There are a few gluten-free beers, most made from sorghum but they generally taste like that sounds. Actually I’m able to get gluten-free beer but I have to go to Scandinavia to get it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not sure where you are located, but give this list a once over. While some on the list are made with sorghum, many aren't.

Just picked up a sherry cask finished whisky from Tamdhu. Will probably bust it out next weekend.

Not whiskey or beer, but southwest Michigan has some solid wines. I’m a big fan of ice wines and ports. Cody Kresta has a great ice wine.

My wife says their Chambourcin is her favorite wine.

You need to check out Porto, if you haven’t yet. You’ll love it if you love port.

I just got the Old Granddad 114 and it’s a phenomenal bourbon for the value. Grab it if you can.
