IMO, it's a very bad thing in Sarr waits until the end of May to commit. Way to long since our pitch. Gives to much time for new teams to get involved and the ones who are involved to up their offer. It would be almost a month and a half since his visit here. We don't need to lock him up tomorrow, but if it's a month he's not interested.

Sarr may be the best player you can get but you definitely run some risk by waiting that long and you could be left in a bad spot if either Sarr decides to go to the draft or someone else misses out on targets and decides to make an offer he can't refuse(see Kansas State left with money to spend on Coleman).

Just speculation but I wonder if some coaches are basically operating by recruiting guys that would cost a certain amount and then just taking the first guy to commit. Obviously different from when schools used to recruit multiple of a position and take the first guy or two to commit because of the budget but there is definitely more risk the longer it gets drawn out.

I heard through a podcast that Illinois mystery player is Stoyanivich. I probably spelled that wrong. He played for Cal last year but has not yet gone in the portal. If so, he would be a great fit. I hope that they can get a wing or two before this is all said and done. Af far as Adam Miller is concerned, I think he would be a good add. They need shooters and he does play good defense. I think him coming back here knowing the culture would be ok. I do not see him as a starter but maybe he plays himself into 6th man or something.

He's probably waiting to see how KJ and Riley do at the combine and feedback on them...

I think Sarr is worth a swing and a miss for two reasons.

1. He's that good.
2. Brad has shown he can pivot and get someone else

Additional point 3:

3. Continuing the FC Barcelona relationship seems like it could be fruitful as the recruiting landscape continues to evolve faster than it can be regulated.

I don't know if FC Barcelona wants Illinois stealing its young stars

That's fair, but their young stars are going to seek higher competition (and pay days) if they are able. I'm sure those kids talk and it's always good to say we are a good place to go to build your draft stock, as we proved with three guys this year alone.

it's projecting (obviously), but I think Stojakovic would thrive here, especially if we get Sarr
I think Stojakovic would thrive pretty much anywhere in the country. It's only a matter of time until the 3pt percentage matches his shooting ability.

Natural scorer with good size. He reminds me a bit of the type of guard/wing that would play at Michigan under Belein.

You can pivot and get someone else provided someone else is available. When you start getting to the end of May(6 weeks from now), you're severely running out of availability and if other teams are as well, we can't compete with the big boys dollar for dollar.

My issue with how we approach things is that we have:

Plan A
Plan B
Plan C
Plan D

You can be a good team like that. Nothing special, but solid.

We should have:

1A
1B
1C
1D

Those are star level targets. We don't have that. We have Riley, Sarr and........a HUGE falloff.

The question is, do we want to have a good team with a ceiling(without ridiculous sickness and injury) that's makes us competitive to get a double bye in the BTT and maybe win a couple of games in the NCAA

OR

A top 15 team all year long with there being little doubt of being a top 4 conference team with a ceiling and realistic expectation of 3 or 4 win tournament team.

If we wait until the end of May and we end up with option B, C and D.....will have fans whining again in February and calling for BU's head. The expectation level starts now, not in November, where everyone is blowing smoke up everyone else's rear, then irate when expectations become reality.

We'll see what happens, but I wouldn't wait UNLESS you have NIL commitment to go to 3.5M for one player, 1.5M for another and 1M for a third. If we have those assets, it's fine to see the game play out. If not(and we don't), you have to do the best you can ASAP.

How does he have eligibility left? Seriously, Covid eligibility is over. He has played for 4 years w/o a red shirt. What am I missing?

Super happy for the kid. He's a good kid. I think that he's going to be a G-Leaguer for an entire season and may never be a reliable PG given some limitations and he's a questionable 2 given where he's currently at shooting, but he's getting generational, guaranteed money and you don't mess with that.

I truly hope that whoever develops him is committed to bringing him along slowly and they give him a real chance for success. He needs to be getting A LOT of PT in the G-League from the get go.

One of Sarr, Ian or Will, + Ace, + Ben is how it's looking right now. Might try to get another depth piece at wing.

Kylan, Ty, Stud Wing from above, Mirk or Big Z (depending on matchup), Big T

Rotation:
Ace
Wing Rotation guy
Big Z or Mirk (depending on matchup)
Jake

Deep Bench:
Lee
Wagler
Jakstys

Would like the team more than last years.

Will coming back is the only way to make this relevant and idrk why you can't pour the money ur giving Miller and Sarr into him. Easy tradeoff. To the bolded, I would not. This team doesn't have nearly the amount of "alpha" guys.

KJ will go down as one of the most fascinating Illini we've gotten to watch. There were moments of pure brilliance where he was in total command of the situation and other times where it looked like he'd never seen the game of basketball, let alone played it at a high level. It was truly the full one-and-done experience. I wish him nothing but the best at the next level. No matter where his professional career takes him, he'll always be an Illini and it'll always have 'University of Illinois' next to his name. Have yourself a heck of a career, young man.
