My expectations are that we won't get both Sarr and Coward.
My expectation is we get neither. Be ready to pivot and move on to plan b. I hope Brad proves me wrong but we very seldom win any sort of bidding war. Expect more of the same until they show me different.

These types of posts are funny, but they make me wonder at the intention. Are you under the impression that the board speaks with a singular voice, and holds a common set of opinions?

That's wild to say about an overall 1 seed starter and an Elite 8 starter.

I'd hesitate to throw such negativity towards this offseason. We had alot of high end talent last year but we were short on dude's who gave a 💩about Illinois basketball.

Sign me up for Ace starting (if he wins it) and Ty getting 20+ minutes a game.
I don't want to be negative but people are really excited about Adam Miller and I just don't get it. He chose four years of losing over the Illini (and any other winning program). The stats support a bench role on a great team, not a starting role. Now anything can happen, but recruiting another bench player and calling it a win is worrying when we still have massive holes in the starting five filled with hypotheticals.

As for Ty, yes he was on the Elite Eight team, but he then lost his spot so badly the following year he redshirted. Maybe he developed a shot or some ball-handling, but it concerns me that he wasn't considered good enough for last year's team but will be good enough this year and potentially a starter on top of it.

Yes the freshman with NBA ceiling who needed more time to get acclimated in his first year of college rather than the 4 year senior who had already reached his ceiling.
The freshman that Brad played 29 minutes, 30 minutes, and 20 minutes in games that he went 2-9 (1-5), 4-12 (0-6), and 1-9 (0-4)? The freshman that Brad let take 117 shots ( 53 3’s) over a 14 game span, while he was shooting less than 30% overall and 20% from 3? The problem was that Brad wasn’t giving him enough time?

Brad gave the kid 25 minutes a game on a top 20 team and developed him into a likely first round draft pick.

If Adam or Ty starts, something went terribly wrong.

Totally agree. Miller hasn't developed much from his freshman year and also had a major surgery since then. I haven't watched him much since he left so just going off asu fans and the stats. If he's cool with being our off the bench 3 pt sniper who can play some defense then he's a great pickup and great story. If he's our starting 2 guard we are in trouble.

Love TY and happy is back. Brings a lot to the table but outside shooting isn't one of them. That clearly is the focus Brad and staff want from all players... So I can't see ty playing a lot next year if he can't shoot from the outside. Maybe they do 4 out and he can booty ball. I get that he started 2 years ago... But that was out of necessity and he was basically benched at the end of every game last 8 minutes (not always the best move).

Compared to Ben, yes. If we had a better option, no.

The Adam Miller takes are wild to me.

Where...ANYwhere has it been suggested by anyone in the know that Miller is coming in to start, play 35 minutes a game and be the #1 option?

That, and half the board is still butthurt that he left...YEARS ago and now will hang it over his head like he personally, deeply offended them....and also that his agent is demanding 5 million and your first child to play here.

All that has ever been presented is that he would come for guard depth, experience and shooting.

I am all for that, and you should be too.
I am indeed all for it. But you have to look at where he came from and the kinds of reasons why he left in the first place.

He started 30 games for ASU last year. It's very likely his final year. Is he really coming in to be a depth piece?

Maybe the NIL money is just better here. Or maybe he's accepted that the NBA no longer has interest in him and he'll be ok looking at a solid career overseas.

I'm certainly not suggesting I don't want him or that anyone in the know has told us we need to win this kid over with some promises of playing time, etc. I'm simply asking, can a wolf change his fur?

If we add any one of Sarr, Coward, or Watkins (plus Adam), it's a very successful offseason. If you think we should get more than that, I hope you're making a substantial contribution to NIL.

I'd love to get two of the first three I mentioned, but it's quite unlikely and not doing so certainly wouldn't make the offseason a failure.
I agree. Add any one of Sarr, Coward, or Watkins, and it's a successful offseason... IF we add some other good players to the roster.

I'm thinking that we get NEITHER of Sarr or Coward, NOR will we get Watkins. (Of course, I really hope I'm wrong.)

Let's say we knew right now that there will be no Sarr, no Coward, and no Watkins added to the Illini. What additions could/should the Illini try to make asap from the transfer portal?

I've previously made suggestions regarding the following players as possible/additional transfers to Illinois. I'm assuming (I haven't checked today) that they are all still available in the portal. They are: (1) 6'2" 185-pound Sr PG Samage Teel, Indiana State; (2) 6'6" 215-pound Soph SG Kennard Davis Jr., Southern Illinois; (3) 6'6" 233-pound Soph SF LeJuan Watts, Washington State; and (4) 6'3" 190-pound SG Adam Miller, Arizona State. And I believe that all four players would be relatively affordable for the Illini.

For purposes of this exercise, add the above 4 transfers to another 10 players on the Illini roster: Z. Ivisic, T. Ivisic, J. Jakstys, B. Humrichous, D. Mirkovic, T. Rodgers, J. Davis, K. Boswell, J. Lee, and K. Wagler. There's no Dame Sarr, Cedric Coward, Jamir Watkins, or Ian Jackson on that roster, but I believe that a very good Illinois team for the 25-26 season could be built from these 14 players.

Boswell and Teel form a very experienced and talented pair of Point Guards. Kennard Davis and Adam Miller are good Shooting Guards that can score in multiple ways (including 3-pointers), and they both work hard on defense. Watts is a strong and athletic Small Forward that can shoot/score, rebound, and pass. Ty Rodgers could provide solid backup minutes at the 2, the 3, or the 4. Jake Davis can also provide quality minutes off the bench at the 3. David Mirkovic is a young, talented Power Forward who shoots well, rebounds the ball, and knows how to defend, especially inside. Humrichous would be an experienced 10-15 minutes/game backup at the 4. The talented Ivisic twins are each over 7-feet tall, they can both shoot 3s, and they both can block shots and defend. It's the two PGs and the two Centers that really stand out for me! They would be key players in the upcoming season. In addition, K Davis, Miller, Watts, and J Davis would give the Illini good shooting (including 3s!) from the SG and SF positions.

Weren’t we pretty involved with Onyenso last spring?
I would even say drooling over him would be an appropriate description- given OA was his coach I wonder if he can resurrect something in him, but I can’t see a spot for him with us

Kansas St was a mess last year, but holy cow, how could he not get on the floor with that team? He was a big NIL guy like everyone else on that team but it was a completely lost year for him

Id bet on some team taking a chance on a mobile 7 footer that can provide rim protection and had 10 blocks in 24 mins in a game at Kentucky.

He looked pretty bad this year and I don't see a fit for him with Illinois but I would give him a scholarship if he wanted to come here and redshirt. He could work with Fletch and OA for a season and potentially be a bench big the next year. He could even get a degree from Illinois in those two years if he wanted.

That seems unlikely but he would be a solid practice guy too.

Is there a role for Jakstys? He was billed as a skilled player who could shoot, but who needed a year to increase his strength and bulk. Recent photos show he has bulked up, don’t know if that means he is stronger.

There’s 80 minutes at PF/C. Have to think Ivisic, Ivisic, and Mirkovic take all of them.

If we can get Sarr, Miller, and a starting caliber 2 with some handles, where our 6th, 7th, and 8th guys are Ty, Miller, and Z, we’ve got a top 15 team.

lol “if we just add 2 NBA level players to what we currently have”….i mean you could argue this for most teams in the country
