Thanks for the update - very helpful to simplify things, no need to discuss Jackson, Haggerty, Coward (which we knew we were out on) and even Sarr at this point. You didn't mention Watkins, was that on purpose?
If we're paying Ace 7 figures, he's going to be the starter, we don't have the kind of bag to pay guys 7 figures to come off the bench like Louisville can apparently, but I'm also still holding out hope that we lock in Andrej for something around $2.5M then we theoretically can make a push for another big time SF/SG like Watkins and be a real contender. If we end up with Andrej, Ace and a backup PG, we'll be competitive but clearly a notch down from the top of the big ten
I would think knowing we have Andrej in the fold, to go raise more money for a guy like Watkins to put us in contention next year is an easier sell to donors - is there any hope of that?
Surely out of eligibility? He got hurt in February this year after playing 22 games, no way that's a medical redshirt.
Sign me up for three seasons of this show right nowSo, it sounds like Morez Sr. is working the channels for Morez to end up at Duke to take over the Cooper Flagg role:
1. I know they have a signed NIL deal, but that "doesn't mean anything"
2. Morez has Cooper Flagg skills he just wasn't allowed to show it last year
Agreed. Although I’m losing faith on the idea of Hamer getting the boot as there hasn’t seemed to be a lot of noise on that front past the first couple weeks of the offseason.andrej/miller and the offseason is a win imo (assuming coaching changes as well)
I like Davis as a shooter as well, when he is open and has time to get his shot off. Not gonna create his own shot and wasn't impressive defensively or displaying that "dog" mentality that is often mentioned here. But, he did seem to improve/adjust to a higher level of competition in the second half of the season so maybe he can make a decent contribution next year.I am as well. There is no analytical backup for this but I fully believe he's going to have more of a role than he's getting credit for right now. Him and Tomi are the guys on the returning roster that I feel like really have the chip-on-the-shoulder swagger that our team sorely needed last year. We need dudes with some stank, I'm not as interested in the guru savants to lead our teams to success (and this is coming from a self-identifying spreadsheet guy).
Thanks - I'm still holding out hope then, I think all of those others schools will be full pretty soon - one of them is getting Sarr, Haggerty, Jackson, RJ Louis (if he doesn't stay in the draft), Coward, CBM, etc. so maybe we'll be the team that has money and a slot for him by the time he makes a decision. There’s not a ton of intel out there on Watkins … He’d like to stay in the draft if he can …
Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, Florida, Illinois … That’s the list I got …
Shocker!!!If Duke gets Sarr and Coward with what they have coming in and coming back, then the money game has really destroyed basketball.
This can't be true. I read over and over here that only not-EDGs, with holes in their game that make them unplayable, leave Illinois, to take lessor roles, on losing teams. No way a player can leave, find success, and end up making more in a year than all the posters who criticized them combined. /sBe a lot more than a few hundred thousand …
Number I heard for Dain was $3 million … With multiple programs ready to pony up …
He made money at Memphis this year but not $3 million …
Cue the gif?Don't you put that evil on this deal.

Can someone explain to me the logic of not making filling the assistant coaching spot priority #1?
With recruiting being about connections and relationships, seems we would want to have all the help we can get in filling next years roster.
500k now is 2.1mil at 5% compound interest when he's ready to retire, take the money while it's available, never know what the future holds.Good for mom. He can't play basketball all his life. He has a degree from Illinois. He can get a master's from Memphis. He'll be happier with that when he's 35 than the extra few hundred thousand he'd get by transferring.

Locking in Andrej and a guard like Ace/someone similar is key, then at least we can go into next year feeling good and if we can add someone late that drops out of the draft we won't have a roster that prevents that - Ace/someone similar isn't going to scare anyone away that they won't start.
Do we already have someone in mind? The simple answer is wanting TA’s contract off the books at the EOTM before bringing someone else on …
Do we already have someone in mind?
Which side of the decimal point?Yes …
Lol, jokes aside ... what do you mean?? I would not say this board is some chorus of homerism and only pro-Illini sentiment ... there is easily an equally strong "sky is falling" crowd with every piece of news. This can't be true.
