I would think knowing we have Andrej in the fold, to go raise more money for a guy like Watkins to put us in contention next year is an easier sell to donors - is there any hope of that?

There’s not a ton of intel out there on Watkins … He’d like to stay in the draft if he can …

Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, Florida, Illinois … That’s the list I got …

Agreed. Although I’m losing faith on the idea of Hamer getting the boot as there hasn’t seemed to be a lot of noise on that front past the first couple weeks of the offseason.

For me… That means I’ll be rooting for him and praying that he learns how to execute a defensive gameplan. But I won’t be putting money on that happening

I like Davis as a shooter as well, when he is open and has time to get his shot off. Not gonna create his own shot and wasn't impressive defensively or displaying that "dog" mentality that is often mentioned here. But, he did seem to improve/adjust to a higher level of competition in the second half of the season so maybe he can make a decent contribution next year.

Thanks - I'm still holding out hope then, I think all of those others schools will be full pretty soon - one of them is getting Sarr, Haggerty, Jackson, RJ Louis (if he doesn't stay in the draft), Coward, CBM, etc. so maybe we'll be the team that has money and a slot for him by the time he makes a decision.

Locking in Andrej and a guard like Ace/someone similar is key, then at least we can go into next year feeling good and if we can add someone late that drops out of the draft we won't have a roster that prevents that - Ace/someone similar isn't going to scare anyone away that they won't start.

This can't be true. I read over and over here that only not-EDGs, with holes in their game that make them unplayable, leave Illinois, to take lessor roles, on losing teams. No way a player can leave, find success, and end up making more in a year than all the posters who criticized them combined. /s

Can someone explain to me the logic of not making filling the assistant coaching spot priority #1?
With recruiting being about connections and relationships, seems we would want to have all the help we can get in filling next years roster.

The simple answer is wanting TA’s contract off the books at the EOTM before bringing someone else on …

500k now is 2.1mil at 5% compound interest when he's ready to retire, take the money while it's available, never know what the future holds.

I can't understand the market for the litany of guys announcing themselves as in the portal but with no reasonable possibility to be eligible. Are schools going to commit money to them pre-House and pray the NCAA gives them another year? Someone is getting swindled but I'm not sure who (which must mean I'm the one being swindled).

Lol, jokes aside ... what do you mean?? I would not say this board is some chorus of homerism and only pro-Illini sentiment ... there is easily an equally strong "sky is falling" crowd with every piece of news.
