Honestly, this is old. Yesterday, everyone would be shocked if he doesn't sign with us. Now, another school is coming on strong(for the 5th time this off-season).

This has happened with ALL of our targets. We would were all good, then we lose the guy and blame Brad.

Be a lot more than a few hundred thousand …

Number I heard for Dain was $3 million … With multiple programs ready to pony up …

He made money at Memphis this year but not $3 million …

Does anyone have any idea what a talented veteran (Senior?) backup PG (like Samage Teel of Indiana State) is asking/demanding for a transfer?

No matter if Illinois signs Sarr, Watkins, or Stojakovic, I think we still need to add a backup PG to the roster. And if that dollar amount for that backup PG is fair and affordable, I don't know why we don't spend a small part of our money NOW to get the backup PG that we most want, the best available (whoever that might be) for our needs, in the transfer portal. And Illinois could continue searching for the expensive stud/big fish with all of its remaining money that we are holding.

I just don't understand all of the love for an Adam Miller transfer to Illinois. Especially given the "seven figure" cost, and his numbers from last season. 44.9% from the floor. An aberrational 3-point 42.9%. 9.8 ppg. Only 1.9 apg.
That "aberrational" percentage could be a trend. He was regarded as one of the best 3pt shooters in his class. I also watch a lot of him at LSU and the quality of shots to took was poor and bombs. Adam can shoot with good shot selection. He also is a solid defender

I guess if we’re pretty much solid with the young man then why isn’t he locked up and end of story? Might not be what everyone wants but why not sign a way better player using Ace and Humrichous money to have two stud wings/small forwards to have a stronger team. And pick up a back up point guard! To me this makes the most sense!

But maybe it would work with these particular transfers? If they improve modestly, we increase their NIL money (modestly?) to retain them. If they improve dramatically, we make a big increase in their NIL money to keep them on board. I also don't see any of these players being NBA Draft caliber after one season at Illinois.
These are all guys who started and played well enough at a lower level to now be on the radar of high major teams. You want us to ask them to all come here, to a situation where probably only one of them can start and the other 4 are going compete with each other and with returning players for bench minutes, with the hopes that one of them maybe gets a bigger payday at the end, while there is a good chance the other 4 end up tanking their NIL value like Carey Booth? Do I have that right?

Best team? Probably not. But maybe so? But it would be a young team (with potential) by adding these four Sophomores and this one Freshman via the transfer portal.

Someone help me understand why we paid a kid who was only Honorable mention all-state his Sr year of high school in Indiana, who averaged only 12 PPG his Jr. year at a friggin NAIA school, and didn’t make any all-conference teams in his one year in the Missouri Valley over $500K last year?? Does Ben have black mail info on Underwood?

Ben H is going to have a good year for the Illini next year. Save this and we'll find out if I was right or wrong. What's a good year? I don't know. We'll know it when we see it.

He's been the whipping boy for the fan base, and it's not fair to him, IMO.
It can only go up.

BTW, I am NOT saying that the Illini SHOULD sign these 5 suggested transfers. I'm just suggesting this scenario as one the team COULD try to play out if ALL of the Illini's top transfer targets (the Big Fish!) are a NO.

Saying that, there are (or would be) a LOT of minutes available for guards and wings with that new roster. I think that 2 of the 5 young transfers would have a chance to start next season. The other 2 guards/wings would definitely have chances to compete for substantial playing time off the bench. I don't know how good the Freshman forward Josh Harris is now, or how good he will be next season, particularly in comparison with Davi Mirkovic. But I think there's playing time available for both players.

Is that going to make them stay in school as long as they want? Can we start recruiting Lebron right now?
Cue the "Kofi come back" song that a poster came up with a few years ago. Sorry I don't remember who to give credit to. It was to the tune of the classic Player song, Baby Come Back

Yes. Schools have reached out but something drastic would have to happen at this point.

Sorta seems like something drastic just might be commonplace is the current market. I compare it to the local real estate market here in South Carolina. Each day that goes by without a formal signing, the competition increases and the valuation/asking price goes up at a geometrical rate.

It's really tough being a buyer right now. I'm afraid there's just no such thing as a lock.

I have seen two articles on how Duke is all in on Stojakvic. If that's truly the case it is very unlikely he signs with Illinois.
What about Duke scares you? If it's their pocket, I get it. But if it's just the brand, it doesn't have the same luster. Pay to play era. And we offer more playing time opportunity.
