I would love to know how the trade conversation for Tucker went. Did they prioritize Cam over other prospects? Tucker is a beast and the best player in the trade by far but would be nice to have Smith at third right now instead of Shaw/Brujan.

Even though Tommy is definitely top 3 cheapest MLB owners, not even close, I do think the NL Central has been bad enough that they should be winning it usually at this payroll level. GMs should only be judged on dollar per win efficiency and it’s hard to imagine Jed isn’t one of the worst in baseball for that statistic.
I don’t mind Swanson as much as others. He will still end up worth 4-5 wins because he’s that good defensively. I wish he hit like he did in Atlanta, but at least he holds his defensive value at the moment.
I am still mad we didn’t make a competitive offer for Bryce Harper. Or keep Schwarber knowing the DH was coming. Value wise, hard to beat those two.
The apprehension with me for Shaw is the bad swing mechanics. I’m not sure why that wasn’t fixed a long time ago.
But WHY is he batting 5th ? He should be batting behind Nico and PCA at the very least. He's a black hole in the middle of the lineup.

I think the Cubs weren’t willing to give up Shaw. I’d bet the Astros asked for him. They could put him at second base with them moving Altuve to LF.
Right now, Smith is playing RF for the Astros. Not sure if he’s played and third for them yet.
They offered him 30 million per year though right? And he went for 40? So if we can find 30 million in wasted cash the last few years, we have Bregman instead of a lot of junk that cost us games like Hector Neris, Turner, Hosmer, etc.
And hindsight is 20/20 on some moves... but Hector Neris looked terrible the year before Jed inked him and his peripherals were terrible as well. That move worked out exactly as it was expected and was just a huge wage of a decent amount of money.
I just think Bregman would have been a huge difference maker on this team. You'd be able to slide Seiya down to the 6 hole which is where I think he best fits and Bregman can fully protect Tucker.
I think Hoyer's biggest mistake was having the payroll go over the luxury tax by just $300k last year. How does that happen?

Some of you all forgot all the 1 run losses the last 2 years when Seiya was hitting like Jon Lester hitting in the heart of the order in the early parts of the year.
And others cherry pick bad outcomes. failing 7 out of 10 times is a good hitter. Not to mention his 2nd at bat. I'm guessing you won't be posting after that one.
I mean, it's just silly. He's been in Chicago for 4 years. He's been hitting in the heart of the order. He's been playing right field. The team has failed the last 4 years largely because 1) he is too streaky and disappears for 33% of the season at the plate every single season, 2) He can't stay healthy, 3) his defense has been awful at a position that by MLB standards is not that hard to play.
If this guy's name was Jacque Jones or Milton Bradley, the fans would despise him. He lucked out there. Hell, Fukudome was absolutely deplorable but fans really never soured on him either. It is what it is.

Seiya drives me nuts because he's a horrendous fielder, and he makes so many baserunning mistakes. Thankfully he's seemed to take to the DH role.
1st and 2nd nobody out today in the first inning, a defeated team on the ropes and about to give up a massive inning and Seiya comes up and strikes out. Guy seems to really hate rallies.
Going to need a big inning today with the way Taillon is pitching.

Last week I turned the tv off in disgust when the Cubs lost a 7-2 lead to a 10 run 8th inning, and was shocked the next morning to learn the Cubs had won the game. Tonight I switched to the basketball game when the Dodgers scored 3 runs in the top of the first, only to go back to the game to learn the score was tied, and in the time I write this the Cubs have taken a 5-3 lead. I don’t know what will happen for the rest of the evening, and wonder if I superstitiously have to turn the tv off in disgust from time to time to inspire the Cubs to come back from disaster.
Might be one of those nights. Imanaga just got blasted for a long HR from the 9 hole hitter. Can't wait for the NL Central slate of mediocre hitters to make Imanaga look good again.
