It is amazing how many at bats Seiya has that just are not professional caliber.

May sets Suzuki up with a high fastball on the inside part and then the next pitch is a 45 foot breaking ball in the left handed batter's box and Suzuki swings at it. Even the current version of Javy Baez would have laughed at that pitch.

1st and 3rd nobody out and you don't score because your 3 hole hitter is a clown.

haha, there's the little leaguer at 3rd base again.

Again, legitimate franchises don't put Gage Workman on a major league baseball field.

A major league baseball player will go an entire season and not make those 3 errors that Gage Workman has made at 3rd base in the span of about 20 innings.

Hoyer should be fired.

To go into this season with that bullpen and absolutely no real plan a third base, outside of hoping a rookie works out.......it's malpractice.

The fact that a major league bullpen is filled with guys that can't consistently throw strikes is just brutal.

Let's ignore the fact that they traded the best 3rd baseman in their farm system to Houston for a guy they won't come close to resigning.

He needs to go.

How are Eli Morgan and Ethan Roberts two different totally useless relievers?

This is even worse than Rowan Wick and Brad Wieck

It is insane that our bullpen is basically 50/50 to have a 5+ run inning heading into a game. Dodgers are good, but anyone is going to score on you when you walk the bases loaded.

I don't get how Gage Workman never learned to keep his glove on the ground. How do you make the same mistake 3 times in a week?

Get Down! I taught little girls to get their gloves down. He has had plenty of time to learn it.

Unlike your first 2 points the run differential means nothing. Nothing! Sixth best record with biggest RD. Must mean that we aren't clutch!

Yeah, Cubs suck. First in division, sixth best record in baseball, and largest run differential in majors. What a bunch of clowns.
Nobody is saying they suck, but if you can't see that this bullpen is holding them back, I don't know what to say. They're 15-10 and it should be 18-7(and minimum) if the pen were even MODERATELY decent.

We can't expect the offense to produce like this over 162. The pitching is going to have to pick the offense up sometimes.

The third base situation.....I stand by the fact that Hoyer botched this up horrifically, UNLESS Ricketts does something unheard of and extends him for $450M - $500M dollars.

They went into the season leaning on a rookie, then demote him after less than 20 games.

This is going to be a wild year for the Chicago Cubs. Anywhere from 85 to 95 wins, I think.
This Cubs offense is unstoppable. You better be ready to score 8+ runs to beat this team. And this pitching staff will give it to you if you want it. But this lineup might put 12 on the board.

The rest of Cubs fandom thanks you for your service
Once again I turned off the game in disgust, this time when the Cubs went down 10-7. Once again I checked after the game was over and discover the Cubs won in a late inning comeback. I’ve never been superstitious, and I hate missing late inning rallies, but if this happens a couple more times I may have to figure out how to bottle this.

In 2023, we were hot and looked like a lock for playoffs. What happened?
In 2024, we were in first in April, fell apart, came on strong, fell short. What happened again?

This roster more or less has the same flaws of those teams. I’ll concede Kyle Tucker is an MVP candidate and the last 2 teams didn’t have anyone half that good. It also appears the Brewers may have finally lost all of their bull!!!! luck.

But this team is constructed like a mid market team and that’s quite depressing since we should have a roster with legitimate World Series hopes. Especially when you trade for a 1 year rental like Tucker.

First in runs scored, 24th of 30 in runs given up. Not sure how the defense ranks but unless they tighten up both bullpen and defense, it will be a quick trip in the playoffs, assuming the Brewers don't catch/pass them in the standings. It's a long season.

Asaad left his start early in Iowa last night. Not good news.
If you could have slotted him in for a start every 5 days and somehow acquire another starter that would be another way to help the pen from within until the trading deadline because you would be able to put Rea and Brown in the pen.

I agree, it is a long season. And yes, the bullpen needs to be better. It is the relentless harping on the same players/facets of the team by a few posters that is already old and tiresome.

100% agree. The team has been great so far, especially with the schedule they've played. Bullpen needs to improve, and they need to acquire a starter at the deadline but the posters here are ridiculous. Seiya hits a 2 run double in the 1st, and then the guy comes on here with the same nonsense after he strikes out in the 2nd. Guess what-he's still got a 149 wrc+ today. Pro-tip: if you think that is a bad player, you don't know what you're talking about.

Co-sign.

I've been on Loyalty for over a decade, and primarily use this Cubs thread. No season thread has ever had as much negative energy as this one.

It's the kind of energy that if a person bringing it sat next to you at a sports bar to watch the game, you'd move a different seat for your own peace of mind.

LOL. I did the same thing. I missed most of the game. Turned it on in the 7th and we immediately gave up the lead. I decided to watch TJ and the Wolves play the Lakers instead... I assumed it was over.

This team is different than the last few.

That’s what happens when you’ve had 7 straight disappointing seasons and no legitimate changes to the roster and then your ace pitcher gets Tommy John
