Andrej on Thursday:

"As of now, I'm open. As of today I'm open, and just hearing people out."

Regarding visits: “That's something I really haven't discussed with my people yet. So there are no visits planned yet, but maybe. I'm open to it."
AS is holding an auction. How big a bag did we bring?

Biggest bag. That’s the key, IMO. Not sure UNC can raise the money.
What’s the angle, then? He will be featured in offense, biggest bag, good education, I’m struggling to figure out why we can’t seem to close these recruitments down.

I think its more the landscape of college ball today, why not wait and see if someone offers you way more. Like Indy said yesterday, Jackson to St John was done from day 1 but it took 2 weeks to be confirmed.
Personally, I don't think we've shown an inability to close this portal season. We were in on Dix and he chose to play close to home with his mom in poor health....I don't think anyone could compete with that weighing on his mind. Who else did we miss on that we were really gunning after?

Here’s where I am on this whole thing: If he schedules other visits, that’s a problem. We aren’t there yet and hopefully other trips are deemed unnecessary.

I heard from my buddy who works for the program that AS is “not enthralled with Champaign-Urbana” but likes the program. Also said his father has a big influence on the decision.

We do have a roller coaster emotional fan base here. Brad will move on if there is a player we are tracking has moved on. I have my issues with Brad but he has other irons in the fire if things go south. We just need to let all this play out. I personally want to thank you for posting what you can. We have solid insiders with Indy, Illini0440, DB11 and yourself.
I totally agree. Plus, if a player wants to be here then I'm all for it and he can help us win great! But for me what to quote what Coach Bielema said refeering to McCray applies here too. " If you don't wanna be here we don't want you to be.
We just added a stud guard no one has ever heard of instead of Miller and there are other very good players even still.

"Recruitment" doesn't quite seem to fit anymore

I see your point, but I do think if the team roster changes every year, fan interest during the regular season will decline.
The thing that works for me, believe it or is following this forum during this time period. I ignore the silliness and focus on the incoming players. That way at least at the beginning of the season I am a little familiar with the players. Personally, I have enjoyed the past few seasons. I did not expect to. But I agree that the current NIL and portal “Rules” are not sustainable. Brad has done a remarkable job learning And navigating this new situation. What will the job look like in five years?

So true. I have seen some criticism of Illinois for not having recruits in on visits and I guess why do people care? The amount after the dollar sign is all the (top)players are looking at. The school, tradition, coach, education, facilities...does any of it even matter?
