Last year, we lost by 15 strokes to Northwestern in the B10 Championship. Then they had one of the best course corrections I've ever seen and rolled through the regional and NCAA fields. Hopefully Coach will have them ready.

Also, I noticed that the SEC and ACC have a match play component in their conference championships. Great way to prep for the NCAA's - I wonder if the Big Ten will follow suit.
This has the makings of the "NCAA tourney results vs. regular season championships" threads from the basketball forums, and I'll be consistent at least.

No thanks. Match is not our strength, we do much better (since we have the strongest golfers overall) in a stroke-play format. I also think these guys can play match whenever they like it...granted the stakes are not the same but you can get used to the format. Like the opponent who concedes every three footer until the 18th, when it counts and you haven't hit any all day.

I'd rather win more B1G championships. I just think we have a better chance for that in conference stroke play than the added NCCA preparatory benefit of playing a match in conference ahead of the national tournament.

Coach Small played Monday at White Eagle, Naperville in the Illinois PGA Open Series event, according to the IPGA website. Showed his picture and everything.

He finished tied for third with several others and earned $481.25. Shot one over 71.

Nice way to relax after a grueling B1G tournament.

Good for you, Coach.

Could IPGA be mistaken? I think there's another Mike Small of IPGA.

(I check out IPGA action to see how the local pro is doing.)

top 5 move on?

Correct.

OSU will be tough to beat, they've returned to form this season. UNC is young outside of the Ford twins, but have been playing well as of late. UNLV and Long Beach State both finished ahead of us in Hawaii a couple months back. Tough field, thankful that this one's at Atkins...

Found some more info on Jake's day at the qualifier. He started on hole 10 and carded a 33 on the back nine (par 35). Then he shot two more pars, so he was sitting at -2 thru 11. Then this happened:

Congrats on the awesome round Jake! Also congrats to Jackson, who shot a 67 in Schererville, IN to get co-medalist honors and advance. Both with be playing in one of the 36-hole final qualifiers in early June.

Time for the gals to implement the Nick Faldo philosophy of golf: If it's the final round, play par golf and allow the field to come back to you, then you win.
He won a Masters that way.

Too bad for Illini women. Oh, well, that's golf. See you at Medinah in October, I hope.

Should be a huge advantage. Knowing the nuances of the course makes a big difference especially the greens
As long as the team doesn't take a win for granted and still plays focused, we should be good.
