I want to believe we’ve turned the corner under Bret and no other coach since Mike White has truly got me this excited. But we were three plays away from being 7-5 last year. It was the rare season where most of the breaks went our way. It’s not unrealistic to believe next year could bend back toward the norm.

That said, I’m cautiously optimistic that the difference between now and the past is a highly capable coach getting the job done.

I see where you’re coming from but the only runaway game last year was against Oregon, who beat tOSU in the regular season and finished 3rd. The Penn State game was closer than it looked and they finished 5th. And we only lost to Minnesota by 8. So not everything broke our way, but we were finally in a position to win all but one of our games. That’s way ahead of where we were 5 years ago.

Agreed in general, but…

1) FWIW, our Friday game vs. Nebraska had amazing ratings … so it can be good exposure for the program.

2) This is the one weekend where it doesn’t bother me as much. It’s such a crowded weekend, and it beats being on BTN Alternate or something. I also think with the preseason hype, a Friday night game on Labor Day Weekend can draw a huge crowd and be a fun environment.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Duke's opener being on Thursday, so they only have 1 extra rest day on us. Still don't love it, but if that's the case, I understand.

On the bright side, this gives us cooler game temps, and it frees up the long weekend to not be worried about the game (not that I should be worried about WIU lol). Of all the weekends to have the Friday game, Labor Day weekend might be the best one. I just hope it's the only one.

I agree. About Friday games unless a team like Say Kansas Duke. Last year it was Thursday with Eastern.

Sign me up for any extra rest that can be baked into the schedule. I don't care about fan inconvenience.

Also, it is a terrible PR practice to release this on NFL schedule day. Some folks might groan about the day but it's not news to bury, making this a poorly-timed release.

I am not a huge fan of the Friday games either, but at least we are looking at a guaranteed evening start. Daytime games in late August/early September have the potential of being heat fests. Much easier to bring my 2-year old to a later game during this time of year.

If they are going to schedule these weeknight games, it would be nice if they did so PRIOR to selling season tickets. They present real logistical problems for out of state fans.

Exactly this. If it doesn't get moved to Friday night, there's a 2-in-3 chance it ends up in scorching heat on Saturday.

Anything after the first couple weeks, I definitely want on Saturday. But those first 2 weeks, I'm completely fine taking the guaranteed night game in good weather.
