Fought off the double jinx.

OK, that was fun, let’s take 2 of three in Miami and then head to Cincy for a three game this weekend. Hopefully we can take advantage of the schedule as the Boo Birds in STL have to go to Detroit then back home against the D-backs. Let’s get some separation built up by next Monday.

At least now we know what we have in the alternative and the bar is set really low for him to improve the offense.
Nicky seems like a good team guy (and from Chicago) but his bat is not good.
Berti seems like he can't lay off or catch up with a high fastball.
Brujan's highlight this year is a slide at home and a windblown ground rule double.

I see this as "do or die" for Shaw. If he fails again, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cubs make a move for Ryan McMahon.

Perhaps for this season as an every day player. Shaw will get more looks at the majors, regardless. He is being rushed out of necessity. I don't think it will be held against him long term if he struggles again.

Yeah - that is what I meant. They can't continue this season with a black hole at 3B.

I hope not. I wouldn't take McMahon for free with his contract.

He’s a plus, plus defensive 3B whose offensive production is underwhelming considering where he plays.

His contract isn’t THAT bad - $16 million in each of 26 and 27 - and the Cubs could likely get the Rockies to eat a chunk of it by throwing in a better prospect. Otherwise, the Rockies are only going to get a Rule 5 candidate back from wherever he goes.

If it was only for this year, then it would make some sense as Shaw insurance. But with 2 more years at $16MM, no way. He has to be starting for that money, and I don't want him as the starting 3B.

Maybe for 3rd base it's do or die but I don't see them giving up on Shaw if he struggles again.

The question then becomes if Shaw can’t hit well enough to stay on the field, who else can the Cubs go after?

Arenado is the obvious choice if the Cardinals fall out of the race, but they’re only 2 games out right now.

Hayes with Pittsburgh or Urias with Baltimore will be monetarily cheaper, but far more expensive in terms of prospects without being much better than McMahon.

Who else is there? Moncada, if healthy, I suppose. Not sure I see them trading prospects for him when they could have essentially had him for free in the offseason.

Agreed. At least he can field a ground ball. He can hit .175 just as well as the other guys they've played the position have. Have to be patient with him. Can't bring him up, just to send him back down again. They'll ruin him.

The guys on the tv broadcast are absolutely right. No clue how this Cabrera kid for the Fish has 5.50 ERA. He’s throwing absolute filth.
And in a few weeks, they'll be bringing back Eury Perez, who looked like one of the best pitching talents in baseball before his Tommy John surgery 2 years ago. And they brought back Ryan Weathers who shoved against the Cubs last week (rematch soon). Marlins have some solid talent in their rotation.

Wow. Cabrera gets Ballesteros on a disgusting 94 mph “change up” with 15 inches of arm-side break. Then immediately follows it up with a meatball straight down the middle that Amaya deposits over the left field wall.

So, I guess I answered my question from the previous post.

Then Brown wets the bed in the 5th. He needs to be in the bullpen. If you can only rely on two pitches, life as a starter isn't long.

Hmmm…what happened to Palencia? Got the first two guys then fell apart?

1)Instead of blowing a 101 MPH fastball letter high, he hung a slider. Not sure if Amaya called for it or if the game is called from the dugout? Terrible decision either way.

2)Either Tucker or Counsell had their heads up their rears because he(Tucker) was playing WAY too shallow. That ball barely hit the warning track. With two outs and no one on, you have to be playing no doubles.

3)I think Palencia thought the game was over and Tucker should have caught that ball(which he should have). He was obviously rattled. The next four pitches to the 9th hitter weren't competitive.
