Woohoo, tie game! I love being able to watch Illini baseball ... would be awesome if college baseball ever even got half as "big" in the Big Ten as it is in the South.

Also ... the Script font is BEGGING to get onto the baseball uniforms!

Will UCLA and Mich still play? There's no point as UCLA automatically will advance, but they kept showing the game as scheduled. Interesting concept for the conf tournament. Vital to be a top 4 seed.

It's one of the dumbest formats for a tournament I've ever seen. There's going to be so many meaningless games tomorrow and Friday for either 1 or both teams playing. Every team that lost yesterday's season is over, but they have to stick around and play in a meaningless for them game today or tomorrow.

They have it set up like it's single elimination for everyone but the top 4 seeds, and then double elimination for those top 4. Which is fine way to organize a tournament, except it's not really double elimination for the top 4 because they could go 1-1 in their pool but if the team that beat them goes 2-0 (completely out of the top seeds control), they are out.

It should have just been a full bracket with the top 4 teams getting double elimination, or actual pools where ties are broken by total runs.

Yes.

Not sure where the confusion is! Haha. Right when I posted that, we had just tied it with a base hit ... at least on my TV. :ROFLMAO: And I was saying that the Script font from our basketball throwbacks would look really good on the baseball uniforms instead of the current font.

... not that the 1LL1NO1S font has ever looked good in any way, shape or form that it has been used!

If someone finds video of that controversial play/call, please post a link.

Beating a dead horse, perhaps, but this picture is all too clear. The second base umpire called the runner out based on the tag, not whether the throw beat the runner to the bag. This frame shows the runner having passed second base and the tag having deflected Quagliano's glove. The umpire is leaning over to see whether the tag has been applied. He is NOT considering whether the runner beat the throw to the bag. He does NOT throw the "out" sign until the play, including the tag, is over. And he threw it BECAUSE he saw the tag.

The reviewing umpires had to have seen that. The only question is WHY they came to a deliberately wrong conclusion.

And wouldn’t the crew chief on the field have told the review umpire “We called him out on the tag”? Something does not smell right here at all. I know umpires are supposed to wait until the play is done to make a final call. They are to wait to ensure the fielder has controlled the ball through the play, etc. But something here isn’t adding up. At the very least, the conference owes a public explanation of the sequence of events and the official call on the field so the public has all of the information surrounding the play.

But we all know that information won’t be forthcoming.

Wasn't sure where else to put this but good luck to Champaign Central grad Jake Munroe tomorrow when Louisville tries to beat Miami and make the College World Series in Omaha. Jake has 3 homers so far in super regionals, he's got an unbelievably bright future.... hope they win and can get to Omaha tomorrow. Been watching those games in Louisville and looks like an awesome atmosphere. Can't wait to see the same thing for Illini baseball soon

I enjoy the tournament every year. My niece graduated from Coastal, so I root for them, theyre really strong.
I will mosdef check out Munroe from Louisville. Thanks for the tip.
Beaver baseball is cool too. Hate their field though.

My nephew has Iowa checking him out as a pitcher. He just started his junior year and is one of the top players in Iowa for his class. It would literally almost kill me to have him playing for Iowa. I really hope that he can get some offers from other schools other than Iowa. My dad might roll over in his grave if he goes to Iowa.
