I think most didn't realize how physically gifted we were last year. As a season ticket holder, I didn't expect the team to
compete man v. man with south carolina. Now maybe they didn't respect us, (i know the fans and coach didn't) but we
dominated the line of scrimmage. I remember how physical Wisconsin was in the Brett days. or Bert?

Eh, it's a road game against a decent P4 opponent after a checklist game to open the season.

It's at best a toss up, though I think we have a better chance than most would give us.

For what it's worth they have that and the OSU game as our only losses, which would put us very much in the playoff hunt, if not for a B1G title.

Elko won 9 games there in 2022, and 8 in 2023, before leaving for TA&M

David Cutliff’s last year at Duke was 2021 3-9

I have called Bret "Bert" in the past, and I probably will at some point in the future. But I certainly don't mean it out of disrespect, only endearment. He is the best coach for Illinois I will probably see in my lifetime, and I have nothing but absolute admiration for what he has done since being hired.

Duke it a good team. They don't have a big football name, but they beat good teams, especially at home. It's the equivalent of an out of conference team going in to play @ Minnesota or @ Indiana. Those teams historically are pains in the @$$ to go into their place and play. Duke is in that realm.

Their name doesn't carry the weight that Miami, Clemson, Florida State, etc. does, but it you don't go in and play really, really well, you'll get beat. Even if you play really well, they can beat you. That line is going to be in that pick 'em category.
