NW was definitely the first. Nebraska was also really brutal. Same with Duke. Tennessee wasnt great outside of that putback dunk. From a neutral perspective, for good or bad, I think the fan's main deal was always why he played so much (30+ minutes, often ahead of guys like Will/Dra/Tre/Morez) when he wasn't at his best and turning in very insufficient outings in our losses. He had some really good outings in some of the wins (Oregon, Michigan, Purdue), but his poor play/shooting in the losses seem to really rub people the wrong way. Brad's idea was probably understandable in the fact he wanted floor spacing and shooting; it just didn't always work out that way and a guy like Ben gives you very little offensively outside of that catch and shoot 3 ball
When BH had a bad shooting night, he was bad. (I kept track of it during the season, but didn't keep the records.) In games where he made at least one of his first three three's, he was fine, shooting somewhere in the mid to high 30's from 3 in those games. But in games where missed each of his first three three's, he was abysmal from there out, shooting, iifc, well under 15% from three in those games. I thought Brad would recognize at some point that BH never shot himself out of a bad night.

Comparing to Pippen's athleticism, not his ability to play the game.
Tell me which guy on this roster was athletic?

That era of Celtic teams were my absolute favorites. Once the likes of Bird, McHale, Parrish, DJ, etc... were gone, my withdrawal from NBA fandom had started to commence.... The Stockton/Malone Jazz, the Mavs with Nowitzki, Spurs with Duncan/Robinson, even the Suns with Nash kept pulling me back on occasion, but it was a gradual withdrawal over the entirety of the 1990's and early Y2k's... Oh the memories!!!

Real Walter Sobchak vibes going on.

Ben was fine from 3. Bad from 2. Improved defense and rebounding throughout the year. Obviously he was really good at not turning the ball over.

Honestly, I blame Brad for locking up this roster too early so we can't complain about missing on players, leaving us to argue about Ben and how we should properly weight his turnovers.

Ben wasn't a total bum. He's the guy who bears the brunt of all our shortcomings from last season. It's unfair, I agree. I expect improvements in efficiency with a reduced workload and reduced responsibilities. I look forward to him being able to have a comeback type season.
That's all well and good...

But can you get me a toe?

If he's listed at 6-2, that's probably just a program height. He probably has to stand very tight to reach 6-1.

wait a minute... isn't a missed shot without an offensive rebound a turnover?

IF the portal is still open for the Illini (and that's a BIG if), I believe that there are still BETTER options available for the Illini than Lander. But perhaps not more AFFORDABLE options?
