As I stated before, why have they kept Barrero?

Oli was interviewed on KMOX earlier this week and brought up how he can only do what he can with the roster the GM provides to him. If they brought Saggese back up, they could give him probably 3 days a week where he could play depending on who you wanted to rest and where you put some of the other interchangeable parts on the roster.

Fermin is at triple A. Plays infield and think he played the outfield.

Cardinals sweep the doubleheader and the series against the CWS and now are tied with the Brewers @ 40-35 and 5.5 GB the unlovable ones........................Walker is taking called 3rd strikes at an alarming rate and today did so on FB's right down central.....
Still very susceptible to sweepers and sliders on the outside part of the plate with his exaggerated stance and when he swings at those pitches he is swinging one handed and very off balance , almost falling down.......

Gorman is another subject.......when he connects it goes very far ,,,,,,that's the problem , making contact.........I hope the redbirds hold on to both for at least a couple more seasons.....It would be a bummer if they were dealt and then hit their stride for another team.............it really really would............................

MO has said the same thing recently. The Cardinals are looking for bench help.

"Prior to the game, Henderson, QB Carson Boyd, LB Jojo Hayden, and OL Melvin Priestly will be signing autographs in the Budweiser Terrace in the Left Field Patio (Level 3) beginning at approximately 5:15 p.m. CT. All four current Illini football student-athletes signing autographs are natives of the St. Louis area."

Masyn Winn's lack of hustle out of the batters box cost the Cardinals a run in the bottom of the first......his groundball to 2nd was muffed but still got him out..... ...Alec Burleson followed with a ringing double that would have scored the run..........not a good look............

YEA !!!!!!!!!!....................Pallante made it through 5 innings tonight so far................Cardinals lead the Reds 1-0 going to bottom of the 5th................unlovables lost today so we can gain a game on them............

Is it just me or does Burleson look like he is only cheeseburger or two away from being Jon Kruk?

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals take the first game of a 3 game series with the Reds by a score of 6-1.........on a hot and humid night in the Lou the Cardinals got.....................

Quality start from Pallante and he got a much needed 5th win for the season...............
Winn with 2 hits , 2 runs and an RBI..............
5 run 7th inning for the Redbirds opened up the game with a plethora of walks , errors and a couple of hits......
Phil Maton with an excellent inning to stop some momentum by the Reds before the Cardinals big inning............
King with a so so night and was picked up big time by Jo Jo Romero.................
Riley O 'Brien closed out the game with some good heat..............

should be an interesting 1:15 matinee tomorrow with C.B. Bucknor behind the plate....I always keep track of the number of missed calls by him........usually surpasses 10 + misses.......he really really does...............

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Through 11 innings of hot , sweaty and humid play today the Cardinals and the Reds battled tooth and nail with the Cardinals finally prevailing by a score of 6-5.................

Joel Pozo came up with the winning hit and RBI with a bloop single to right field to score pinch runner Jordan Walker with the walk off victory........

Sonny Gray pitched valiantly and left with a one run lead that became a 2 and then 3 run lead for the Reds......but the nitty gritty Redbirds battled back to tie the game on a Nolan Arenado solo blast........

Then the Cardinals had a bases loaded nobody out situation in the bottom of the 10th but couldn't get a run across home plate...........

Very entertaining game with C.B. Bucknor's missed calls at 34 this afternoon on balls and strikes....just another routine day behind the plate for him........

Cardinals winning streak reaches 5 games and let's sweep the Reds tomorrow at another hot and humid 1:15 matinee start...

LET'S GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!!!

PS : Phil Maton is Cool Hand Luke.............what an excellent free agent signing.....it really really was............

Did anyone go today. We were talking about how miserable the weather would be, but a great ending to partially offset. We went when it was this hot once and could not wait to get into the car. My parents car's AC broke 30 minutes into the 2.5 hour drive home. Miserable, but still a story that survives in our family.

It was a Sunday game August 1967. Once a year Dad took the whole family to a game. Sunday afternoon only.
It.Was.Broiling.Hot.
Mom, like most of the other women wore their Sunday best to the game. That included nylons and a girdle along with the typically 60's beehive hairdo that was more wig and hairpieces than her own hair. She was melting. My youngest brother was about 2 months old. Mom and my older sister left our seats to go stand in the concourse shade to try and keep him "cool". He was fussing the whole time. What made it really really bad is Dad always bought tickets down the third base line. That meant we were looking into the sun all afternoon.
I loved it. I had my Cardinals cap, my glove and was busy keeping score. My two other brothers kept leaving and going to stand with Mom in the shade. Being a family of 7, we rarely bought snacks. A Coke was slip between us kids. Dad had a beer. He sent one of the other boys off to fetch Mom back in order to share his beer. She declined. He was mad. She was even more so. He got up to go speak to her. It didn't help the situation. At all.
First and foremost she thought it very stupid to go to a day game in the middle of summer. To sit facing into the sun. To bring an infant to the game. This was long before parents put muffs on their children to keep from injuring their ears. She also hated the long walk back to the car. We parked on a side street about a mile from the stadium in order not to pay for parking. All of this would have been fine for a couple of guys going to a game but not for a family with small children and women in heels.
On the long ride back to Peoria they were both fuming. Dad finally said, (trying to make a point that only he could grasp) "Fine! If you are going to be that way, I just won't bring you to another game!" Mom's reply was equally sharp, "THAT IS FINE WITH ME!!! I never want to go to another game with you either!" No one made a sound the rest of the way home. Even the baby was fairly quiet. He was worn out by the heat and his crying earlier.

A couple of year's before Dad passed away I called Mom and told her that I knew she didn't want to go to another game with Dad. (For roughly forty years she hadn't.) I wanted to know if she would come to a game with me. I told her it's a night game. It was in Milwaukee's new stadium. They have a dome and would close it if it's too hot, cold or raining. I also said we were behind home plate in the 4th or 5th row. I had gotten comp tickets from a company for the game. Dad had a cane so we parked in the handicap lot just a short distance from the gate.
She had a blast. She said if she had known that games could be like that situation she would have gone to another game sooner.
You just don't forget those family blow ups.

THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cardinals start the 4 game series against the unlovables with a power display of 4 two run home runs on the way to a 8-2 victory.....

Mathew Liberatore with a 7 inning quality gem of a start giving up on 2 runs , 6 hits and only 1 walk..........great job Libby............
Nootbaar , Donovan , Burleson and Gorman all with 2 run big fly's............
Great defense by the Redbirds with a pivotal double play turned against the unlovables with the bases loaded...........
Contreras with a 3-4 night......................
Donovan turned in numerous great defensive plays aqnd a great turn at 2nd on that DP.......
O'Brien with another solid outing........he has a great FB and breaking ball................

Getting this win in the opener of the 4 game series hopefully gives the Cardinals some momentum to gain some ground as they now are 3.5 GB............

LET'S GO CARDINALS...........................

How many were expecting something big when Happ hit into the DP? He has killed the Cardinals.

I called it. I told my wife that he would hit into a double play. In my mind it was going to be a hard shot. A one or two bouncer. Disclaimer- when I saw the ball taking such a high hop I didn't think there was a chance.
