His June hasn’t been nearly as good as his May was, but I agree that he has definitely taken a big step forward this year. Let’s hope he can keep on building upon it.

Starting to watch again…this young team might get pretty good!
And don’t forget – the Sox have lost a LOT of one-run games so far this season. Which means that are very close to being able to bag a lot of those as wins in the future.
It’s all about the young guys. They’ve got talent and energy. And they are learning how to win as a club.

I think we have far different definitions of “brink” and/or “an amazing year.” Sox are on the brink of mediocrity at best. But that isn’t as pessimistic as it sounds. This season thus far has gone as well as I could have hoped. I believe in last year’s thread I posted that this team would be bad again, but I hoped to see some individual improvement by some players this year.
I think we’ve seen that. The two catchers look good. Vargas has shown signs of life and glimpses that he could be a very nice player. Meidroth has looked like a legit middle infielder. There are also some positives in the minors.
Colson Montgomery is showing signs he might actually be a legit prospect. Since returning from his two weeks in the Arizona League to try and get back on track in early May, he’s gone 32 of 115 (.278), 18 runs, 19 xbh (8 HRs with 6 in June), and 23 RBI (16 in June). If he can keep progressing, a future middle infield of him at SS and Meidroth at 2B could be legit. And Braden Montgomery has looked good at A+.
Noah Schultz has not looked good since being promoted to AAA and Hagen Smith lost some development time with an injury (back now), but they’re both still considered in the top 5 or 6 LHP prospects. Grant Taylor looks like the move to the bullpen agrees with him.
My hope is that the Sox go college OFs early in draft this year. Other than B. Montgomery, there isn’t much in the way of OFs in minor league system. And certainly nothing at the major league level. Definitely a big area of need.
If things break well and they can pick up a few solid projects at trade deadline, my hope is the team could push to get to .500 next year. Then in 2027 the fun can start.

Given the close losses and continued improvement we've seen I think we finish at 50 - 60 wins, with an outside shot at low 60s.
If things progress as you've outlined, we're looking at .500 next year which could have us in some interesting discussions at the end of next season given the AL Central is patchy at best.
Either way, I'm actually loving going to games and watching our team. That's all that matters.
Yes, what you said. That IS what matters most about Baseball – the Sox or otherwise. Only one team is going to end up a big winner at the end every season. That means every other team wont. Does that mean the year was a failure for everyone else? No way. It’s all about being entertained and having fun and building memories for you and those you share Baseball with. That makes every team and fan base winners. The big trophy is just a bonus.
We haven’t loved the Sox because they’ve given us so many World Championships. It’s because each of us made a bond with this franchise for personal reasons we have. And the Sox have given us enough good times to make this worthwhile and keep us coming back.

As to AL Central being “patchy at best,” Tigers aren’t going anywhere and I think Cleveland improves. Minny and KC probably fit into the patchy category though.

If this is the case then I agree. I'm hopeful the Ishbia commitment will yield some thoughtful investments in the team. I don't know the terms of the agreement, but I'd imagine the sooner he starts building value in the product on the field the better, and no better time to start than now.
Obviously, I could be wrong, but I think free agent moves for next season will look a lot like this year’s — relatively low cost, one-year contracts that can be flipped at trade deadline for prospects.
So much now in sports is reliant on “the window.” With the farm system the way it is, the window for winning likely doesn’t start opening until 2027 when Schultz and Smith should be in Chicago and Braden Montgomery should be at worst close. Now a couple of shrewd investments could help quicken things, but have to remember that though this year seems light years better than last year, we’re still talking a .333 team.

Absolutely! Prospects do pan out sometimes. Pile them up! If the free agents are so bad that they can't be flipped, you only had them for a season and they can ride off into the sunset. After you flip them, the record gets worse and the draft pick gets better.
