THAT'S A WINNER !!!!!!

Cardinals with a series sweeping 7-0 victory today over the Guardians.................Liberatore with another quality start going 6 strong innings in the 3 hit shutout on the road.............

Stormin Nolan Gorman with a long 3 run homer in the 1st inning set the tone for the ballgame.........
VS II with a 2 run long fly to increase the lead to 5-0.......
Arenado taken out of the game as " precautionary measure 's ".........
Romero , O'Brien and King finish the shutout , the Cardinals second shutout in the 3 game road series...............

LET'S GO CARDINALS !!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys, we are a couple of weeks from the trade deadline. We have the last wild card spot and only 9 teams with a better record. We head to the Pirates and then a weekend set with the Cubs. First place after the first week of July is right in front of them. Deadline is the 31st. You guys still selling because it’s not a “Championship team”? Tell that to Arizona a few years ago. At a certain point you have to reward these young ball players with a show of front office and fan support.

I will not attempt to predict what the Cardinals will do. Mo is on record (as of 2 weeks ago) saying he would be looking for bench help.

A "show of front office support" would probably mean trading prospects or young players for starting pitching. So what are we willing to give up to bet on this team? Probably not JJ Weatherholt or Quinn Matthew's, right? Definitely not Victor Scott or Masyn Winn, right? What about Saggese? And what's the return? A half season rental? I feel like the front office might want to be buyers but I think it might be hard to find a fit. Certainly would be an odd move to go big and empty out the cupboard to go all-in when the current front office is a lame duck anyway. Like @Se Il Illini suggested, I think they may be targeting smaller moves like bench help, or low cost pitching.

And I know I'm unlikely to get much agreement but they should still entertain offers on Arenado. His defense had been phenomenal but he's still a below average bat right now. I think you could plug Saggesse in at 3rd and be just as likely to make a playoff run, if you happen to get the right offer (maybe even a return that can help you win this season).

It really is a tough spot to be in. This isn't an org that is flush with talent. They can't be sellers, and it would be hard to go all in. I'd be very hesitant because be is so young, but does Walker get you anything. Helsley contract is up at the end of the season, is it a bad message to package him or do they just lock him up? You can't let him walk out the door this offseason for zilch. We could probably find a closer or go committe with in the org.
It will be interesting.

Also the draft is in a few weeks. Cards have the 5th pick if I remember. Top talent of draft seems like a lot of shortstops. I like that lefty out of LSU Anderson. I've seen him anywhere from 1 overall to 5.

I wouldn't want to mortgage the future on a surprisingly (at least to me) decent year. Being in the last wildcard spot is just a step above mediocrity, and yes, I remember 2006 and 2011. Those teams had stars though. Their average record was due to injuries, not talent. If they can find something in the bargain bin, maybe a veteran that was once a star on a bad team and may have one more playoff run in him. The Cards have had luck with this scenario in the past.

Once again, we are in the land of baseball purgatory. If we mortgage the future yet again to search for Mo’s Moby Dick of “just one more piece”, the cycle will just continue.

There is a young core worth building around. Sell to get more young talent. Don’t fall into the trap yet again. Look 2-3 years ahead.

This is where I am at. As much as I hope this team can keep this up, I think it's way too tenuous to put all the eggs in this particular basket. I think the starting pitching especially is one big regression to the mean or one key injury away from being a problem. And then there's the question on whether the end result is worth the cost. What is the end goal? Winning the division? Ensuring a wild card berth? And once we establish that, is the end goal worth the cost?

Ultimately I think the club needs to make a choice - are we building towards being a low-cost payroll that punches above its weight and contends on a foundation of home-grown talent, or are we going to be a franchise that spends as necessary in free agency to contend every season? I think it's obvious we aren't doing the latter, so then we have to fully commit to doing the former. Which is why I would still entertain offers on Arenado. Not saying take just any offer, but if the right one comes around that helps you eventually build towards actual World Series contention, I wouldn't reject it just because of playoff hopes for this season.

We are also only 2.5 games out of a top 2 seed.

I agree, this team isn't worth going all in for. But I would like to see at least one somewhat risky move that could pay off big time.

I hope that they are trying to reload the farm system, so that there is a good solid team that is cost controlled. Then add free agents to get the team over the top. We are not going to outspend the Dodgers (or several other teams) year in and year out. That is why I would like a line up of good/great cost controlled talent, maybe add a FA bat and 2 front line starters. Just wishing.

Not according to Baseball Reference. They list all of his Palm Beach innings as SS, then at Springfield split between SS and 2B with the majority at short.

Let’s be realistic-this isn’t going to continue.

This team should be building for 2028. Accept reality, restock young talent, and sell.

Pallante with 7 inning's of 1 hit shutout pitching is not enough as usually reliable Phil Maton is nicked by soft hits and gives up the only run scored in a 1-0 loss to the Pirates...........need to salvage a win tomorrow in the matinee contest.....

Cardinals had so many chances throughout the game but couldn't get the hit when needed.....................
