Turner needs to go. Busch needs to play everyday.
OK, Leo Durocher.

I’d be happy to see Cubs make an upgrade over Turner, but against left handers Busch is batting .125 (40 ABs) with .222 OBP and .150 SLG, while Turner is hitting .273 (55 ABs) with .323 OBP and .364 SLG. Granted the former’s numbers aren’t awe inspiring, but Busch has been downright anemic against lefties.

Oops. Meant latter’s.

Taillon to the IL with a calf strain and is expected to miss more than a month. Jordan Wicks is being called up to take his spot on the roster though Counsell said Flexen is the most likely candidate to join the rotation.

Today's game is only on Apple TV+. For those who don't want to listen to broadcasters on the game, there is an option to listen to the local Cubs radio broadcast and it does usually sync up pretty well to the video on the broadcast.

Sunday's game is a 5:00 PM CT start, earlier than normal start time for Sunday night game on ESPN.

Disagree with the Berti comments. Every team does it. My HS coach even did it.

I'm 100% in favor of keeping the bullpen arms fresh for that 3-2 game we're about to play on Saturday or Sunday.
It's normally the team that is getting creamed that brings in the position player

Leave it up to Seiya Suckzuki to do his best to destroy a big inning.

1st and 2nd nobody out

horrible strikeout

It's always a fun game, to see who will be more detrimental to the team today, Seiya Suckzuki or Dansby Swanson.

Both are historically awful in situational hitting, but as we've mentioned, one plays gold glove defense from the hardest position on the field and the other had to be demoted to DH.

1st inning = 2 on, nobody out, strikeout, horrible at bat, high leverage failure

3rd inning = lead off, strikeout, horrible at bat, high leverage failure.

5th inning = lead off, weak pop out, high leverage failure

Negative 11.8% WPA added through just 3 at bats.

Another shameful game for Seiya, smart to have your 7th best hitter in the 3 hole!

Kinda rubbing their faces in it. "We're beating you so bad we can comfortably finish with a non-pitcher."

Let sleeping dogs lie.
No, today was a bullpen game, so let tired arms rest. They weren't anticipating losing Taillon for a month on Thursday afternoon. They have to piece this together until they get to the All Star break. If that means throwing a position ball player in a blowout....you do what you have to do.

Choked this game away, could have put the Cardinals out of their misery and into selling mode.

Let the record show that I hate bullpen games…
I'm not a big fan of them either, but the fact is they got the game to the 8th with Keller, Hodge and Palencia all tee'd up. Can't ask for more than that.

Up 5-3 against a team like that.....it should have been a win, but stuff happens. Keller has been near perfect. The play where he and Kelly didn't communicate on a bunt was the biggest play of the inning. Instead of a man on 2nd and two outs, you have men on 1st and 2nd with only one out. Huge difference when you needlessly end up putting the go ahead run on base. The whole approach to the next hitter changed. It's a much more precarious situation. Then, a bum comes up and jacks one out.

Milwaukee lost, so ultimately.....no harm, no foul.

I will say it again though.....that All Star break can't come soon enough. They need to reshuffle the deck with the starters, the BP has been darn near perfect, but needs a recharge. They'll be getting Amaya back, as well as Assad. That obviously is significant. I don't think we'll see Taillon again until the end of August, but a trade is probably on the horizon.

Onwards and upwards.
