How happy is the little Stone
That rambles in the Road alone,
And doesn’t care about Careers
And Exigencies never fears
Whose Coat of elemental Brown
A passing Universe put on,
And independent as the Sun
Associates or glows alone
Fulfilling absolute Decree
In casual simplicity

I think they’ve figured out that you’ll never get more than 3-4 guys to come in as big money guys because they all want the ball and money is limited. You need a few of these lower 4* guys to fill the gaps and be your bench guys while playing for a bit less.
Plus we believe in our development process and we usually are ahead of the curve on recruits...

I doubt 550k is top 20. Wisconsin has 2 around that as does Purdue. UConn the two you mentioned, and I've actually seen higher numbers for them with Kimani Young at $1.1 million and Luke Murray at right around what Antigua makes. Indiana has a guy at $750k and another at $650k. Chin makes $700k at Arkansas and Kenny Payne makes $900k. That's already 10 guys from just 5 programs.
And I suspect you have just named a large portion of those making 650+. If not top 20, top 30. They key point was that the majority of assistants at power 5 schools made under 400k.

Is this supposed to be an exciting commit? Haven’t seen him and only looking at rankings but seems like a settle this early.
You need guys like this to fill out the roster, but into the system/program, and be willing to stick around to develop despite potentially getting minimal playing time early.

If you go pay a bunch for higher ranked recruits that expect to play immediately they end up transferring after one year if they get stuck on the bench behind returning upper classmen and veteran portal guys.

There are 15 scholarship spots now. Why would you not want a top 150 recruit.

Also, just for some recent examples. Coleman Hawkins was ranked 167, Wagler was 150+ and people are excited about him, DGL 143, Goode 143. You also saw guys like Peyton Sandfort that were ranked around there.

Sublime . . . Simply sublime. And a Loyalty first - Emily Dickinson is quoted on IL.

silly overexpectation posts like this are what leads to hopes come crashing down in the future. illinois is loaded talent wise every year, he'd be lucky to get a Jake Davis type role somewhere as an upperclassman (which in all honesty speaks to the quality of talent).

Uh huh. Given that there are dozens of other major conference programs I didn't look into I doubt that, but ok.

Getting back to where this started, who would you hire to replace Hamer without going over his salary? Keep in mind, it's gotta be someone making less because people usually don't switch jobs without getting at least some kind of pay bump.

For bonus points do the same for TU ($120k) whose place on staff has also been criticized by some.

I'd like them to hire some other nameless young guy so I don't have to read about Hamer anymore

Totally agree, with 15 scholarships available now recruiting players with a potential high ceiling is the smart thing to do. Especially with Fletch and the development program we have become.

Don't worry BU has put Hamer on those duties...

Finding replacement coaches is way beyond my knowledge. I was pointing out from the financial records, which I can read, that it is very unlikely that one needs to triple Hamer's the salary to find a replacement.

But if the specific critique is "he's not equipped to recruit Chicago" then you'd want someone who is good at recruiting Chicago right? Last guy we had doing that was making triple what Hamer makes and the guy before that is making $700k somewhere else. Yes, not every AC makes $600k but ACs that are good recruiters do tend to make more. If you want to replace Hamer with someone of equal competence then sure, $200k might suffice, but I'm pretty sure that's not what most on this board have in mind.

It's okay to temper expectations for a borderline 3/4-star that only Iowa was in on. Just hope the staff knows what they're doing and this isn't a further hint that our money situation has fallen behind our peers when you compare freshman classes.
God forbid, in this day and age of the transfer portal, that coaches have to actually develop their players and not try and feed 100% off of others.
