Why? His coaching style didn't change from April/May, then June/July. The players, especially the "stars", haven't performed. These are major league players that have been doing this for a LONG time. Tucker, Happ, Swanson and Suzuki haven't been coached into slumps. They just haven't been getting the job done.

If anything, what the hitting coach did for Shaw deserves a ton of praise. At his age, he's still moldable. These other guys.....not so much.

Shaw's changes were done when he went down to the minors.

Yes, I’d guess the Cubs’ minor league hitting instructor and AAA hitting coach had more to do with changes than the major league hitting coach did. That said, no reason to fire the latter.

Thank you.

It's almost like fans have amnesia during a month of .500 ball. It's a 162 game season and regressions to the mean are inevitable. Brewers will see it before the regular season ends. I'd venture the Central is won between 1-2 games.
Understood but they are only 2 games over .500 since JUNE 3. It wouldn't feel so dire if that stretch came at the beginning of the season and we were hot now.

Does that make up for his inglorious 4 ER in 0.1 IP?

I'm going to lean into genuine curiosity and ask you (and any other Cub fan infected with unrelenting negativity the past month or so), what does this outlook do for you? I'm not ignoring that Kittredge had a rough first outing, rather, I'm choosing to make room for acknowledgement that he did something so few pitchers in the century-plus of baseball have done.

Misery loves company, but company does not love misery.

He went into a funk after being called up- the coach at the big level has helped!

13-13 is exactly average. Average is below good.

But it’s above bad. The big difference between this team and the last couple Cubs’ teams is they haven’t had the month-long stretch of being Gawd-awful during the first half of the season.

The 2023 team went through a 12-26 stretch. The 2024 team had 4-13 and 8-17 stretches. The 2025 team hasn’t had a stretch like that.

Yet. I’m afraid for what the second half of September looks like when the starting staff is on fumes and they’re doing a bullpen game every other series.

IF , they make the playoffs ( and they should ) , they will NOT be favored in any series .

Jed is betting on luck . That’s not really a good strategy .

Jed is betting on continuing the success they have had this year throughout the rest of the year, of course with some minor additions because he in my opinion is overvaluing our prospects, and I don't mean Cassie who I also want to keep. The thing is there reaches a point where regardless of what you think about the projection of your minors there nowhere for them to play so they have to move but that is another story for another day.

The amount of hang wringing that is going on since the brewcrew caught us is almost ludicrous. the cubs are currently -5000 in Vegas to make the playoffs which is actually above Brewers a at -3000. We all need to chill out and let this shake out. The top of the lineup has course corrected and we are still staying afloat. Almost all neutrals see upside the rest of the way. I would argue despite a couple nice additions the bully is going to continue to have issues and that has me worried. If Palencia hits a down patch it could get ugly.

Assad is possibly back next week which if he holds to form could solidify the back end. Tailion got roughed up, he is at probably 2-3 starts away.

Have you seen the schedule in September?.....

Braves, Nats, Braves, Rays, Pirates, Reds, Mets, Cards... what's the concern of doing a bullpen game here and there against those teams?

I haven’t been unrelentingly negative at all, though I think Hoyer did a terrible job at trade deadline. I also don’t think 3 Ks no matter on how many pitches makes up for 4 ERs in 0.1 IP. That said, overall I like the Kittredge pick up.
I don’t think you are negative but I had no issue with what we got in trades. Kittridge had a bad inning. But overall, he is a solid reliever. Rogers the same. Let’s get after the Cards this weekend.

The Cubs have the 10th best record in MLB since July 1 at 17-13 and also the 10th best since June 1 at 30-26. Certainly not outstanding but OK. The problem is the Brewers have been playing out of their minds.

In the last 2 months I must have said at least 20 times that they can't continue winning like that and they continue winning like that.

Well done, Brewers. Credit where credit is due. But enough is enough. Starting right now.

Why do we always hit the ball to the left side of the infield with a runner in scoring position and less than 2 outs? That is how you lose games. CC needs to clean house of all his position and base coaches. Just idiocy. Baseball fundamental, hit the ball to the right to advance the runner. It’s not rocket science

So far I am not impressed with what Castro brings to the table. Would prefer Shaw for as long as his hitting stays as it has been recently.

Taillon threw 78 pitches in 4.2 innings with 6 Ks. Looks like maybe just one more rehab start and he’s back, though maybe bring him up for next start.

It’s called a day off. Castro has only started 2 of the 6 games he’s played in at 3B. He’s exactly what the teamed needed. He’s also started at 2B and all 3 OF positions. And Shaw is hitting about .220 the last two weeks and .200 last week.
