Clement
g rec yds av. td
2023 fr 8 22 480 21.8 4
2024 so 12 51 741 14.5 5
2024 minus best game 11 40 575 14.4 3

Pat Bryant g rec yds av. td
fr 4 6 98 16.3 0
so 9 34 453 13.3 2
jr 12 43 560 13.0 7
sr 12 54 984 18.2 10
sr without best game 11 47 787 16.7 9

i, for one, am fine that we paid a WR putting up those stats as a freshman and sophomore.

if we play the 'take away one big game' game, PB's jr yr stats would be 11/38/429/6 which is worse than Clement's per game averages as a freshman and sophomore considering TDs are highly variable
To be fair, though, Pat Bryant did have one game taken away — or at least he took it away himself — with the bowl game.

Clement will be fine. I also think Beatty will lead in catches this year.

Beatty, Clement and if Elzy can step up, along with Capka-Jones and Dixon, we will be in great shape. Oh, yeah....Bowick, too. Anyone hear yet how Elzy is doing in camp? Is he showing any signs of being the 4-star ranking he had coming out of high school?

The thing with Clement is that his role depends on how they use Dixon. If they use him restrictedly in the slot, then Clement is no doubt one of your starters. But if they're content to move Dixon outside, your best combination is probably with Dixon and Beatty together, so where does that leave Clement. The X receiver is no doubt going to be between Elzy and Bowick. If I had to bet right now Elzy, Dixon, Beatty is probably your top combination... but its a crapshoot.

The top 5 is pretty settled, the order is not.

true, but Clement and PB both played 12 last year so makes for easier comparison by numbers

Think its safe to assume they'll tap into that versatility with Dixon.

We'll be VERY excited about this group a year from now (everyone back other than Beatty). It's just unproven, but the combination of talent and depth has never been better. IMO WR will be just fine, especially with such a proven quarterback.

It's a very tough game. Duke is a top 25 team, whether they're rated there or not. If we lose every ounce of "tough non conference" love will be out the door.

Our run defense is not great either so it's still safe to assume they'll get something on the ground. Our OLine was not a good pass pro unit last year, so the biltzes could prove a concern.
Are you assuming everything is the same from last year? The D Line will be better at a minimum. Bring back Rosiek, Kreutz, Hood as our interior linebackers.

I don't see a world where our run defense isn't upgraded. Possibly significantly.

O-Line/pass pro depends entirely on health to me but it's safe to assume with the continuity between (well everyone that isn't a wide receiver). Our pass pro will be top half of the Big Ten and likely top 5 IMO.

That's a very premature assessment. We lost our top 3 DLine pieces - two very good ones with Briggs and Edwards (which still wasn't from a good run defense). Likely only upgraded or filled one of those areas with James Thompson. Outside of that there's many question marks.

I do agree OLine should be improved, especially with the positive signs to close out last season.

We lost 3 D Line starters who were serviceable at best and a big part of our run stop issues. James Thompson is better than any of them.
We didn't lose a Johnny Newton. I think we end up somewhere in the middle of the Big in run defense.

I'm excited about having a serious downfield/red zone jump ball guy in Justin Bowick. Not many secondaries can match up with a 6'5 wide out with speed. We really haven't had a "take the top of the defense off" threat.

Isaiah Williams/PB13/Franklin were phenomenal but 2 out of 3 had 4.6 40 speed and probably a little slower for Franklin--not your traditional burners. Though the route running was tremendous.

With DL you basically go from Briggs and Edwards to Thompson and Neal. I wouldn’t hate calling that an upgrade. And Tomiwa D is an upgrade from Bray.

It's not a conversation of whether there's a fall off... it's whether you upgrade and improve from last year.

It is so refreshing (and telling) to see the passion with which our coaches talk about their fellow coaches. Many of them are almost brought to tears talking about their peers. Hey, that would be a great name for a rock band - Tears for Peers
Too easy drill sargeant! Name checks out!

Okay, maybe this could be its own thread but let’s try….

How far do you travel and how many games a year?

TGB is 170 miles
SIllini1975 is 143 miles
TheFlyingIllini1317 came from Chicagoland
380 miles round trip. Only make 2 or 3 games a year. I hope to make 4 this year.
I'd be at most of them if I lived an hour closer.
