RJ Young at Fox Sports ranked all 136 FBS teams. We're 16th, behind Michigan, who we beat last year, and Indiana, who beat like 2 teams with winning records last season. We played 6 teams with winning records last year and won 4 of those games.

Not sure where else to put this, but it's a detailed explanation of the controversy in the bowl game last year.
Cheeze it

TLDR; a punt with 2:33 left in the 3rd, a SC player used a common signal (the arms out T) that's used to indicate the returner isn't going to return the ball. It's commonly used to prevent injuries on a return when it's unnecessary to block. They used the signal then returned the punt, trying to catch Illinois off guard. A couple plays later when BB was visiting the downed Illini player, he put his arms out to call out Beamer for what he (rightly) considered a dirty play (and BB clarified that after the game as well). BB taking advantage of the late substitutions by SC to force time-outs was not related to it.

We all know who won ;)

but it wasnt a punt, it was a kick off that went into the endzone

I really really want to blow out Indiana in Bloomington. For whatever reason, they are the most vocal haters on Twitter whenever Illinois gets praised.

well, twitter/x is a cesspool, and i often see indiana fans sticking up for their and illinois' program when i do venture into the muck there, and illinois fans sticking up for indiana. look at some of the replies when heather dinich posted that espn article that had neither program in the top 32 teams going into this year.

I don't care for their easy schedules, but people were acting like they didn't belong in the playoff when their loss wasn't nearly as bad as Tennessee.

yeah, they deserved to be there. and, like it or not, they had much more impressive games against common opponents like nebraska and purdue.

anyway, i'll stop sticking up for indiana and their fans. i agree with @Mistakenj that i would love to blow them out in bloomington as revenge for 2022's hose job.

Once again the unhealthy obsession with comparing our schedule to Indiana's at every opportunity. Yes, IU had an easier schedule overall than us. But also, Indiana lost only 2 games all last season and both of those games were against teams that faced each other in the National Championship game. Was it a tough schedule? No. But they took care of business against the teams they needed to.

And if we're playing the "them vs us" game, then let's not ignore that we needed OT to beat a Purdue team that IU beat 66-0 and to beat a Nebraska team that IU beat 56-7.

Maybe it's time to accept that last season, IU earned the playoff, and we did not. Jealousy is not a good look. The good new is this season we have a great opportunity to reverse that result.

Does anyone know how to purchase parking passes for football games this year? I didn't see anything on the FightingIllini.com website.

My son showed the ESPN site that showed the teams listed in the top of football. Each team got a paragraph about why they are in the spot they are. Going to ILLINI one sentence. They haven't won 10 games in two seasons. That is ESPN. What a joke.

Good points...I still want us to kick their butts...

I mean there's more to it than just the schedule. They will have a new starters, particularly at QB, while we return our QB and 15 other starters. We also beat a "potential playoff team."

There's a lot at play here.

Not sure if this is a pay article or not, but the author of this ESPN article certainly thinks IU is in a much more favorable position than Illinois. I chuckled, as I disagree with a lot of the analysis, but it shows that getting to the playoff does go a long way in how people view the program.

The good news is that the Illini have every opportunity this season to take a step forward. We are due for a victory at IU after what happened a couple of seasons ago.

I think the point being made is that last season does not matter anymore. It is a brand new year, and what happened last year has no direct impact on the games this year. IU was very good last season, and took advantage of their schedule. The only gripe I have with IU is their coach complaining about SEC schools and their schedules, all the while scheduling the softest non-conference schedules. Hopefully the soft non-conference schedule will bite them in the butt and we go in and beat them.

You mean SECU? Well, in a way, they are right. Coach B should use this as more fuel for the fire. I like it.
