I like the arch Illini being higher up on the helmet than it is now on ours , but not sure I like the small block I under it .

it’s kinda busy like some high school helmets are

the one I really like is the one that was AI generated a couple years ago that was all headdress feathers . yea I know - a pipe dream

Personally, I’m happy with the arched Illini by itself. But this caught my eye.

I’d like to see the headdress logo you’re talking about. I don’t think I saw that one.

This isn’t what he is talking about, but this is perfect imo

I like that. Never gonna happen, unfortunately but I like it.

Are we really doing this? I had such high hopes. We essentially ran a season-long experiment to determine which of our helmets looked the best - we're discarding those results?
It wasn't an experiment, it was done as a tribute to the previous 100 years. I don't think any of it had to do with figuring out our best helmets.

The chance to have the iconic single helmet recognized by all (scUM, Bama, ND, PSU..etc) is gone for us.

We now are entrenched firmly in the "iconic" Oregon model where we throw down several different looks each season. This is a "better" model in that it allows fantastic marketing opportunity for the brand, allows ultimate creativity and input (see: the thread you're in), and individualism for our players and recruits to showcase themselves how they want.

The white script helmet is an ideal example of that, and just as I am so fond of our current iteration of orange out unis with the slant ILLINOIS, I would be almost as excited to see the white out with that script helmet! 🧡

I have complained about this a lot, but there is SOMEBODY in the DIA who seems to have such a pointless, irrational and frustrating "we really should" perspective on stuff like this, lol.

We've worn our Flyin' Illini throwbacks and Script throwbacks for 3-4 games in a row and everyone loved them? We really *should* wear our default 1LL1NO1S uniforms for the next game. Nobody likes them? Okay, I hear you, but they're the base uniforms!! We should keep the throwbacks for big games!

We went through the trouble of recreating absolutely awesome Arched ILLINI and Slant ILLINOIS throwback helmets that everyone loved and busted out a brand new Script helmet that was a huge hit? I mean, those ARE cool ... but we really *should* wear the Block I ones a majority of games. They're the base helmet, after all!! We can't wear throwbacks all the time or they're no longer throwbacks!!!!!!

Grange Grove would have a much cooler and more unique atmosphere if we had a lot more trees in it? Okay, that's true, but can you IMAGINE the logistical NIGHTMARE of no longer having perfect square grids for tailgaters lined up in a flat, straight line?! We'd have to have the lots you can purchase go in a pattern that isn't a straight line! Plus, we'd have to pick up all the leaves from the trees!!!!

There is no "we should" about anything that came to life during the Mike Thomas Era, lol ... and I say that as someone who (A) didn't hate the Shield logo at all and (B) thought our new Block I with the curved edges was a subtle but very clear improvement. We have cool throwback stuff that fans like WAY more than the 2015 rebrand stuff, and it's not like "inappropriate" or whatever to reclaim those parts of our history and heritage as our new standard. Oh yeah, did I mention they just LOOK BETTER, too? :ROFLMAO: Someone in a decision making role is allergic to cool.

I was just scrolling through Facebook a little before going to bed and saw this below. The arch ILLINI, to me, just sticks out as the best of this bunch...and is better than the script. It is unique to Illinois...only others with something similar that I can think of are LSU and TCU (sometimes, kind of). Perhaps I'm missing some school, but there's not many that would be in the same ballpark. But, as I was looking at it, I realized...the arch ILLINI is a nod to THE CHIEF's headdress. Ok, maybe you have to squint real hard and use your imagination, but now that I see it that's what I'll forever see. So my "vote", whenever Bret calls me to ask, is that the Arch Illini become our standard. If we can't have this...

...which would be the absolute ultimate, give me at least the arch. Besides giving us something that is only the Fighting Illini, in my mind that lets me hold on to a piece of THE CHIEF!

I picked up an orange arched ILLINI hat at Gameday Spirit when we passed through campus a couple weeks ago. Combined with the hoodie I bought last winter, this is a killer combo. IMO the arched logo far surpasses anything else in our branding arsenal. I love that it has finally reappeared after 35+ years. Also love that Coach B wears it regularly on his quarter-zips.

My daughter and I rounded the corner of IMPE around 6 p.m. the day were in town so I could show her the colonnades along the south side of the stadium. Practice had just ended and the players were filing out the east side of the stadium headed over to the Irwin facility. As we reached the top of the steps, the coaching staff brought up the rear of the group. As we passed, Coach B looked over at the two of us and said, unprompted, "Hi, folks!"

What a dude, and at the end of a long day at the office, no less. I would say it made my day, but frankly the late lunch I'd treated my daughter to at The Beef House earlier in the afternoon surpassed it. Just to indicate how awesome that Thursday was. An absolute embarrassment of riches.

One interesting thing I noticed recently is that in EA CFB 26, our "Alternate" uniform option (which is the all orang) defaults to picking the Slant ILLINOIS helmet ... all of the other ones default to the Block I. That is likely something someone in the program had to tell EA when it collected that type of stuff, as I highly doubt the back-office people at EA were watching our games against KU and Minnesota last year and thinking they absolutely had to update the helmet that goes with our orange uniforms, haha ... so take that as you will!

Anyway, this is FAR from what I want ... but I promised my official uniform predictions for this year. It's nearly impossible to predict all 12 games without knowing which ones we won/lost (i.e., which superstitions will develop), but here is my shot in the dark:

vs. Western Illinois: O/B/O & Block I Helmet ... It seems the writing is on the wall that we feel compelled to return to this "default" look.
OBO Block I.jpeg

at Duke: O/W/O & Slant ILLINOIS Helmet ... I feel decently confident this is thought of as our "go-to road uniform" right now, at least for big games.
OWO Slant.jpeg

vs. Western Michigan: O/B/O & Block I Helmet ... See previous comment about us feeling like we have to wear this combo more and ~save~ the cooler combos for special occasions or something.
OBO Block I.jpeg

at Indiana: O/W/O & Slant ILLINOIS Helmet ... We'll probably see this again, ESPECIALLY if we win at Duke.
OWO Slant.jpeg

vs. USC: O/B/O & Slant ILLINOIS Helmet ... I do feel like they will do SOMETHING unique for Homecoming but nothing too out there ... so we'll see this helmet with the navy jerseys for the first time.
OBO Slant.jpeg

at Purdue: O/W/W & Block I Helmet ... See previous comments about a lame attachment to the Block I for "regular games" but this time substitute in our road uniform. I also think this staff loves the white pants on the road for some reason, and they'll use a game we "should" win to attempt to bust them out again after they had terrible luck at Oregon last year.
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. Ohio State: O/O/O & Slant ILLINOIS Helmet ... This might be my most confident pick by quite a mile, given it is the "Orange Out" game.
OOO Slant.jpeg

at Washington: O/W/O & Block I Helmet ... Yada yada "business trip," so we wear our "normal" uniforms.
OWO Block I.jpeg

vs. Rutgers: O/B/B & Arched ILLINI Helmet ... This is probably one of my more out there guesses, but (1) we have worn the navy pants at home at least once each of the past two years and (2) I can't shake the feeling that we will at least see the Arched ILLINI helmet ONCE ... so I'll guess they do it on Dads Day to appease the masses!
OBB Arch.jpeg

vs. Maryland: O/O/O & Veterans Day Slant ILLINOIS helmet ... Same thing we wore last year for this weekend.
OOO Slant VDay.jpeg

at Wisconsin: O/W/B & Slant ILLINOIS Helmet ... I'll admit I am totally guessing with my heart here, but I HAVE to believe we will eventually get to see #BPOTR! Late season game at Bret's former employer, potentially with a CFP bid on the line?? I'll predict (hope!) he finally thinks this is the time.
OWB Slant.jpeg

vs. Northwestern: O/B/O & Block I Helmet ... WIU, WMU, NU, etc. Clearly someone thinks we need an excuse to deviate!
OBO Block I.jpeg

Postseason "Home": O/B/O & Script Helmet ... While I sadly now think we won't see these helmets during the regular season (BOOO!), I do think they will return for the postseason given the magic of last year.
OBO Script.jpeg

Postseason "Away": O/W/O & Slant ILLINOIS Helmet ... I think it's likely the staff sees the Script as our "postseason helmet" ... but (A) I think they just love Slant ILLINOIS and (B) I can only attach a certain number of images, lol.
OWO Slant.jpeg

May I please be wrong but only in the best way (and definitely right about #BPOTR)!!

I'd take this in a heartbeat, especially BPOTR. They did go arched Illini last year for Homecoming so I think we see it again for USC. Love the Rutgers look with the arched, very 80s Illini. Would prefer only one Orange out, or one with white pants and liked the old Veteran's day helmet more.

I defer to no one in my ardent support of your encyclopedic documentation of all things Illini, Fighter. However, I'd like to see a lot more of the arched ILLINI and script ILLINOIS logo helmets this season. I'm not a slant ILLINOIS hater; it just ranks third in my list of favorites.

On a previous thread here a while ago I believe is where that design originated.
