Being Tomi's bro immediately adds that emphasis IMO. But regardless, if he has the year we expect - approx 10 PTS, 5 REB, 2+ BLK - I don't see how he isn't a no doubt starter.

He's a no doubt starter this year if we're being honest.

It wouldn’t necessarily be the counting stats that would concern me there.

I’m Interested how that “position” fills out for sure.

Same game for me, but it was when he made that breakaway steal in OT and stared down the defender closing in as he drove to the hoop like "I will end your entire bloodline if you even attempt to deny this basket".
Luther's steal and layup was the play for me as well. Every basket was so important at that time to close the gap in such a short time. He was playing on a bum foot/ankle, but there was no one going to stop him on that play. The determination on his face told it all.

Does this mean there is a chance we see him?
Here's what I think this means:

Jon Rothstein wakes up on the Tuesday before college football starts. There is 0 relevant college basketball news. Jon Rothstein starts calling coaches of teams that will answer. Brad Underwood picks up the phone.

JR: "Hi Brad, how is *checks notes* Ty Rodgers doing?"
BU: "progressing"
JR: "Great, thanks." *hangs up*

Jon Rothstein fires up twitter and sends out this tweet, hoping it'll make its way to the message boards for Illini fans to engage with it.

I'm the furthest thing from an insider but I picture in my head that this is how summer cbb reporting works.

With illinois playing texas tech on veterans day anyone think we could see a early start?

Or still a night game?

It’ll be at the 4 - Quicker footed and height is right on par with what you want from a PF. He just needs to improve his instincts, especially when guarding in space.

At the very least - he’s serviceable enough in terms of starting your best players.

This is what leads to dejection year after year on this board come April. Posts like these stir up unrealistic expectations of literally returning the entire roster - which simply doesn’t happen nowadays. For anybody.

The no doubt STARTERS are the ones you put that emphasis on. That's Petrovic, Stojakovic, and the twin bigs. Last year it was Kylan, Tomi, Morez (not counting NBA guys) - I say we did okay at 2/3.
You’re right I do feel dejected when guys I like watching leave for another school. That’s why I emphasize that I want them to focus on retention.

Is it realistic? No. But it still hurts that Morez and Tre left.

No. That's your opinion. Not saying he won't or shouldn't start, but there are solid arguments for why others might be better there.

I remember this. #TITTD #ibdoy

I was at that 2004 Purdue game when Luther made that shot. A bunch of message board fans, I think it was Illiniboard, got to go on a trip paid for by an Alum. Paid for the bus rental, tickets to the game everything. So much fun. Then we did it again for the last game of the season at Ohio State.

Tre White started a lot of games for us; I’d say 2/4

Morez wants to shoot threes and Tre wants to be the focus of the offense. I have a feeling neither of those respective things will happen at their new schools, but if that’s what they wanted, it wasn’t going to happen at Illinois.

morez was committed to us for so long and then was gone like that. thought he was gonna stay and be that dawg inside for us. it hurts that he left. then he went up Michigan and that hurt became anger.

that anger will lead to suffering... for Michigan. every clanked 3 point shot. but he's still good so it will be little suffering for us as well.

tre white always gave me mercenary vibes and I assumed he was always leaving for another school. solid player but that's it

I have never once in my entire life pictured how college basketball reporting in the summer works... But, eh, this sounds right.

The video is unclear but was there goaltending on Roger’s shot?

And there's nothing wrong with that. On this board insiders are constantly pestered for the same stuff.

In the print days, Loren Tate would never have squandered a fraction of his column space for a "no update" update. But in the digital age it can be done withoutsacrificing more important news. It appears at least some people think it's silly. I appreciate it.
