17-14 Illinois with a late game winning FG. Hope this is wrong.

FINAL Memorial Stadium Sellout Watch for the Western Illinois game:

Ticket sales the last few days have been very strong. I think my projection is higher than any other I've heard or seen, but I been good about it. Yesterday Derrick Burson (Illinois SID) was on Brian Barnhart's Penny for Your Thoughts radio show and said they were expecting a crowd in the "low to mid 50s" tonight. I think that is too low. My official guess for announced attendance tonight: 58,213

the absolutely gorgeous weather forecast for this evening is likely fueling late ticket sales

Traffic is brutal, but if you leave Chicago by 3:30 you can still make the game.

Good article. As I used to live in Macomb (moved to New Canaan, CT 6 years ago) and am a friend of Paul Bubb, I think Paul has the right approach to how WIU should approach its football schedule. I had season Illinois football and basketball tickets for over 50 years when I lived in Macomb (Illinois Law School Grad 1970) and made the drive to and from Champaign for both football and basketball games. Also went to WIU games and saw some good teams when Don Patterson and Randy Ball were coaches. After that the times became bad to terrible. They are now becoming more competent under their new coaching staff.

When talking about attendance, I assume the SID is trying to guess actual butts in seats? If we draw low to mid 50s on a Friday night against WIU, I'd be pretty happy!

It's a troll coment as a means to hijacking discussion and replies. All things considered, at worst case Illinois should win by at least 4 touchdowns... and even that is off the backs of resting your top guys late.

It's always tickets sold. We had this conversation a few pages back (IIRC), but "butts in the seats" statistics are not publicly available and nearly impossible to track (let alone estimate ahead of time based on the tickets website). Also, there was an article a few years ago that said only 49k tickets were scanned for our primetime sellout (i.e., 60,670 tickets sold...) vs. North Carolina in 2016. If you are telling me that 60,670 sold tickets only translates to 49,000 people there, but THIS is what only 80% "actual" capacity looks like...

... then I doubt we have ever *actually* had over 60k fans in attendance practically ever and it's kind of a pointless distinction. In other words, that picture looks like the crowd is jampacked, and it CERTAINLY doesn't look like over 20% of seats are empty ... so I don't think it's worth it for folks to try to make this distinction other than really rare occurrences (e.g., a year where our Senior Day home game vs. Northwestern takes place in a blizzard and only a few thousand fans actually show up).
