Reading the full CBS article, it sounds like Michigan’s defense is “they obtained the evidence that proves our guilt without our consent.”

Now, in a court of law, such evidence would be inadmissible and Michigan stands a good chance of winning any legal case against them, if this information is true. But the NCAA is not a court of law. It is not held to the same standard as the US legal system. How the evidence was obtained in this aspect of the case is irrelevant.

The only schools that could qualify for being pursued by Big Ten for decades are Notre Dame (could almost say for a century) and Texas.
I think the Big 18 should stand pat. The only expansion that would make eyeball/economic sense would be ND. Then the B1G will have to toss in some central or eastern time zone 20th team to make a nice round number. I don't care who it is (and the B1G might not care either) as long as ND is part of the package.

But, if there is a path to the CFP for Notre Dame as an independent, they won't go to any conference.

The B1G cares very much. FSU or UNC would be the top 2 (excluding ND) and they both make a lot of sense and cents. UNC ultimately seems to be SEC bound but I don't know if that's reality or leverage. Texas A&M would as well, but I doubt they make a move.

Also, I don't believe (FWLIW) the ND rumors.

what days are the semi finals and finals of CFP?

will those players and programs even be able to abide by this ?

Per the above, the semifinals are Jan 8/9 and the finals is Jan 19. So players on teams that make the finals would have to enter the portal while their team is still playing.

From the ESPN article linked below, I'm fine with the change as long as playoff players can continue to move & there's an exception for players on teams that change coaches..

OSU wants everyone else to fund the best team money can buy. Feel free to join the SEC if an equal share here doesn’t suit you (or swap places with ND), but realize the SEC won’t be bullied either. They recognize the value in unity.

USA Today points out the obstacles to OSU’s threat, eb]ven combined with Michigan —- no leverage. The other 16 should just say no. We have nothing to lose by watching the two big dogs walk rather than becoming serfs working to fund their dynasties. The other 16 have nothing to lose by saying no.

I never hated OSU more than any other Big team, but I do now. They can join Iowa. B*astards.

Yes but what is she telling Mr. and Mrs. @Fighter of the Nightman at dinner?
She’s a bit harder to schedule dinner with once the season starts! But her husband and I were out watching games last Saturday, so I’ll funnel my questions through him. 😂

I’ll say this, though, as someone who’s really gotten into ratings. Yes, there is the obvious exceptional tier in the Big Ten of OSU, Michigan and to a slightly lesser extent PSU and Oregon … and there are schools like Northwestern and Maryland that consistently disappoint regardless of time/channel/opponent. But Illinois more than holds its own in the middle. Now that we have this thing rolling, we shouldn’t be any more worried than Wisconsin, MSU, Nebraska, USC, Iowa, etc. And I don’t think those schools worry!

The issue is if all the non tier 1 teams are not equal, our teams likely suffer and we all lose interest. In aggregate, that long term takes down ratings on the product.

I also believe some sort of super league doesn’t work because the passion of those tier 1 fan bases has been from being a 10-2 type team. You need teams to beat to essentially have a “good year” every year. If 20 schools break away, I’m not watching any of it. College is such a worse on field product to the NFL. I love it because of the schools.

This is the piece some people are underestimating.

Building an NFL model with 25-30 schools will not have the same level of casual fans interested. If you're an Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, or Northwestern fan, and your team is not part of that group of 25-30, you will have virtually zero interest in watching those games. I bet many of those fans are still interested in the NFL, even if there is no local team.

If my team is going to play Ohio State, Texas, or Michigan—or has a chance to play them in the playoffs or elsewhere—I'm way more interested in watching those games. I love college football more than any sport (same with college hoops), but if that paradigm changes, I would have zero interest in watching Michigan vs Notre Dame knowing there was no impact whatsoever on my team.

But who knows, the thought of the short-term $$ some schools can generate could cause them to destroy an amazing sport.

Just saying that relying on demands from execs from a dying industry aka TV is bad strategy.

Also geopolitically, the best outcome of college sports is saving the ACC but that is iffy. The second best option is make sure the Big XII is strong as heck in the next realignment shuffle, a P3 with a Coke in the SEC, a Pepsi aka the B1G, and a Big XII as a Dr Pepper with some rabid support like Cody Campbell's NIL is the best option. You don't what a P2 who can devolve into P1 because we ain't going to be in that P1 club!

Exactly. Illinois is literally a dream conference opponent for OSU or Michigan … they’ll be able to beat us the large majority of the time, we don’t “threaten” their inflated sense of entitlement and yet we are a decent ratings draw/revenue contributor in our own right. As you alluded to, the juggernauts can’t all be in a league with only each other and keep wining at the level they all expect…
