I don't normally complain about officiating, and I'm not going to say that the officiating cost the Bears game (but actually it did), however, I can count at least 3 calls that had huge effect on the outcome of the game:
1) the bogus "roughing the passer" refs called on the Bears to give Minn a first down when the defender did not even hit McCarthy's head as they claimed/thought,
2) the "holding" call on Wright that was not a hold (the DE simply fell, and he simply fell on him, inadvertently); the Bears had a completion at the Minn 13 on that play which was negated, and then Caleb as called for grounding the next play, which turned what may have been 30 yd kick (or TD) into 50 yd FG kick attempt
3) the PI call you described--that was outrageous

Even the commentator (Troy and Joe) acknowledged during the games that these were terrible way (in very diplomatic manner)

I will also note that there were at least 3 or 4 instances where there was blatant holds by the Minn OL that went uncalled.
Refs didn’t cost them the game. Bears had plenty of chances to hold them. But Caleb can’t figure out how to hit an open receiver in the clutch while not under any real pressure.

Caleb showed nothing new from the last game of last season. Same old same old.

I'm worried he's going to end up a medioce player that really was 4th-5th round talent.

Interesting graphic that came across my feeds today.

I'm not quite ready to slather on my clown makeup again, but it is a good reminder that they play 17 games to decide the season, not one. This is going to be a work in progress.

It’s really starting to look like Williams is never going to play bad enough to bench, but never play well enough to merit an extension.

He basically has 2 seasons to grow into this offense, but as of right now, I’m struggling to pinpoint what he does well enough to build around. What’s his strength?

Stats don't tell the whole story. I saw a video where they showed some of the plays (incomplete passes). The play calling was actually pretty good, and he had many good options on just about every play. However, he constantly shied away from throwing deep ball, his throws were laughably inaccurate (off target, failed to hit receivers in stride, made the receiver reach unnecessarily back/up/down, etc.), etc. He just is very inaccurate, inconsistent, and does not appear to be able to process things fast enough or make the right decision.

He's not much better than Justin Fields (and I wanted Justin gone). I'm starting to think that he's the worst of the 6 QB taken in the first 15 picks in that draft. Another Bears failed QB experiment in the making.

P.S., I will concede that the lack of running game is not helping matters--Swift ain't the answer, at least not as the sole/primary RB.

Good point. Minnesota also had no passing game until they started running for 8 yards per carry.

Kind of agree with this. He is not objectively awful. He does not turn the ball over (which is a great thing) but he also never seems to make plays consistently. Missed some guys downfield (which in the NFL is almost as bad as a turnover). In his defense, his O line IS objectively awful & has been his whole time there. If you are constantly on the run, you are gonna get skittish & not be as consistently accurate with your throws.

Just looks like more of the same for this moribund organization. The fish rots from the head & even tho Virginnia passed on, there are still the McCaskey clan at the head. Other than catching lightning in a bottle with Jim Finks in the early 80's laying the groundwork & Buddy Ryan being ahead of his time with the 46 defense, this organization has sucked for the better part of 50 years since the early 70's. A few high spots here or there but pretty consistent awfulness.

The Bears franchise is essentially the Cubs before the Rickett's family bought the team & actually made an effort to achieve excellence on the field. Tho one can argue they've gone back to the poor man routine since 2016.

My meatball take is that it does not appear to be leadership on the field, which is concerning.
