Whatever he said, it worked.
insiders, can someone pass along that he should tell them that BEFORE the game?

Illinois has scored at least 38 points in 6 of the last 7 games going back to last year.

The lone exception was a 21-17 win in the Citrus Bowl. If you forgot, Illinois won the Citrus Bowl.

Barry Lunney isn't good enough?

There is a method to Bret’s madness. No one wants to see the slow starts but he is insistent on establishing the run early. We are seeing a similar script going back to late last year and so far this year

First half is somewhat pedestrian or kinda bad tonight. But sticking with that run starts to yield results in 2nd half. Those 2 yard gains become 5 or 7 and then they mix in some pass. I suspect we will be a bit more willing to open up more in the first half in coming weeks.

At times the o isn’t pretty but it is pretty efficient. Very few dumb plays or critical mistakes. And if we get a 2nd half lead we go into clock drain mode. Power football against a tiring defense. The kind of things Wisconsin and Iowa have done to us for most of the last 30 years.

I noticed tonight once we got the 17-0 lead Luke went into clock drain mode early in the 3rd. We were snapping ball with 3 on play clock for most all of the 2nd half. That’s a disciplined well coached team with a smart qb at the helm.

Excited to see where it goes. Whoever beats IL is gonna have to beat us over 60 minutes. We most likely aren’t going to just give games away with stupid stuff.

That’s been Bret’s M.O. going all the way back to Wisconsin.

Oh I know. It’s just so fun to see it on our side. There is a clear identity being built in our program. Tough smart football. As one of the radio guys said tonight Bret likes to win on the margins and the small details. U can win lots of games with decent talent that plays smart organized football. Not always sexy but it sure feels good at the end of the game

Please please start taking out the starters when you are 30 points up and get our backups some meaningful playing time. I know redshirt bla bla bla but someone is going to get really hurt that we don't need to lose for an extended part of this season or all of it.. Just seems crazy to keep them in the game specially in that heat. Hope X is good to go.

Food for thought for sure.

That’s the difference between his program and our previous coaches. His teams are not turning the ball over nor making as many dumb penalties like Zook, Beckman, Cubit, etc. Plus finally recruiting at a higher level. All Equals the success level that is currently being obtained. Altmeyer has been amazing so far at being extremely protective of the ball. He’s avoiding making bad throws and done so well at hanging on to ball when pressured or sacked!! I think he is one of the best in the nation and isn’t getting near the recognition he deserves!
