Big East schools and Gonzaga can allocate significantly more of their revenue share dollars to basketball, because they don't have a football program to feed. My guess is the bidders are there.
True, but without football will they have the $20M available to allocate?

Theoretically, however their athletic departments may not have the funds to do much more than us because they don't have football which is the major revenue generator for most athletic departments. $20 million is the cap but a lot of schools will spend well under that.

Most of the schools say that they will not come close to $20mm, but if they can rev share even $10mm, that’s double what most P4 conference teams are allotting to men’s basketball. There also are a few decent, legit NIL deals available to players in some of these markets where they aren’t competing against a local Football star for marketing dollars.

Examples: Villanova and Georgetown athletics departments reportedly have revenue over $60mm, which puts them within spitting distance of the bottom programs in the Big 12 and ACC … but Nova and G’town don’t have to pay FBS-level football teams.

no fight in the second half really scares me

Like @Indy Illini Fan said, our rivals are recruiting 4*/5* while we took on a 3* with no hm offers... Competition is getting stiffer by the day

He kinda looks like someone that would attend Iowa tho

In a sequel, Indiana has picked up Chase Branham who looks exactly like someone that would attend Indiana with name to go with it.

Our offer on the table isn’t even top 3 right now in terms of compensation …

Not saying $$ will be the end all, be all in this recruitment … But it’s certainly major piece …

My confidence in this recruitment has gone from an 8 to about a 4 at best …
Well go figure. How naive are we to have ever thought this isn’t what would happen… it happens nearly every time

Can I ask where the confidence came from? Back when we signed our last 3-star, I said it seemed clear we'd fallen behind our competition financially speaking, and I was told not to worry and that we were in on Constanza. Was there really a belief internally that we did have the money to compete for him, or did they think the non-monetary reasons would be enough?
Answering the back half of your statement, I don’t think it’s necessarily that we DONT have the money to spend for him. I think it’s that Brad has a certain budget to work with and spending on him means that budget is stretched. I believe that was the point in taking the 3 star is he costs significantly less, which is dollars that can be spent elsewhere. That kid can develop as the 13th player on the roster and if he doesn’t pan out, you can dump him, no harm no foul. Now, it’s debateable about whether that is what Brad is doing or that is even a good idea. Neither of which I am weighing in on here. Just trying to provide some thoughts on the question about the money being available.

High school basketball recruiting is seeing a shift. Major programs are going to try to get a top guy, maybe 2 and then look at the portal to get more mature talent. I imagine kids in the top 40ish to maybe the top 100ish will either have to lower their asking price or lower their expectation of where they are going to go. Obviously some programs are immune to this model (see Duke, BYU, UK, etc).

I mean at this point what is the reason to have OA around? He can't win without money on these guys so what does he really bring to the table? I get times are changing bit paying a guy this much to just lose out over money seems pointless. I could see if had the money to compete and his connections but seems like that's not the case.

Dude have you seen the money we have spent the last few years? We’re gonna be fine. This is such a silly take this early in the cycle.
