Why would you want him back at the "end of the season?" Say he plays in two more games - likely won't get a great draft grade with missing as much time... and you burned the opportunity to redshirt and have him for the entirety of next season.

Best case, heal up and anchor that secondary in '26.
I guess if he is expecting to try to go pro after the season, then it would make sense to try to come back at end of year and play in some games with competition (we have easiest portion of B1G schedule near end of season) to show that he is healthy for the draft process. I believe he already got a good draft grade going into this season, so he is not likely that worried there.

It really comes down to if he wants to spend another year in college or go pro next year. I am sure that NIL also plays a role as well. If he is healthy near end of year, I would hate to see him sit a couple of games when he can help the team get to 8 or 9 wins, for example.

He’s done for the year … I’m not sure why it was worded the way it was … That’s what I got told by multiple sources … I guess technically if we’re playing in January he maybe could be back but makes 0 sense on his side to do that …

I’ve talked to Xavier’s family … They will see what the NFL draft grade is then evaluate whether college (here or elsewhere) or pro is the best option for next year …

IF college again, here or elsewhere.... Are they unhappy with something?

Such a terrible way for him to end his season...getting hurt in mop up duty. That is 100% on the coaches.

I'd imagine that's 50% just the way portal-ing is now, every year for every good player, and 50% an injury that never should have happened.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. Sometimes it's easy to forget this new world we live in. Just sounds like the coaches are high on Xanai too, so wouldn't wanna lose them!

With the injury. I know it happened in garbage time and many feel like starters should have been out of the game. I'm not sure which side of the fence I really stand on with this because of a few different angles:

1. Kids prep, prepare and think about football all year long at this level. I'm sure they want to play every single snap.
2. They want to be out there to pad stats, impress NFL scouts to improve draft stock, break records, all of that.
3. Margins of victory helps with the committees when it comes that time.

However, none of that above matters if you're injured and can no longer be on the field. It's really a double edge sword at this point if you ask me...

It's not just here, but spin and evasiveness has crossed the line to outright fiction when it comes to college football injury reporting.

No reason to believe his stock won’t take a hit. Teams will have questions about his durability and, although he was great last year, this year was a huge opportunity to really come into being that guy.

I'd imagine Illinois will be happy to pay him a ton of money.

Bret's been very good with player retention.

I for one did not expect X back after the news. No big surprise there. Wishing and hoping for the best for him.

Terrible news. Our secondary took a huge step back when X was injured last year, probably cost us the Minnesota game and maybe a playoff spot?

Hope we can get healthy and get to 6 wins. But all of a sudden with our injuries, O Line problems and a frisky Purdue team that hung 30 in south bend, 3-4 at the first bye is very possible.

Possibly, except Notre Dame's secondary may be worse than ours. Had the second lowest coverage grade in the P4 headed into that Purdue game.

Next man up. If our team is so fragile that losing Scott turns us from a contender to a team that can't compete, we have much bigger issues. And I do understand Scott is one of the top corners in college football.

And I won't beat the dead horse that says we shouldn't even be in this situation in the first place. . .
